Today must be International Backpedaling Day. Obama says: “Never mind a million EVs by 2015.”
Under a new strategy announced today, the Department of Energy promised to support research into new battery technologies and manufacturing methods that would lower the cost of lightweight materials and improve vehicles’ fuel-efficiency, Reuters reports.
But the DOE backpedals furiously from a goal set out in a 2011 State of the Union speech, where President Barack Obama announced what he called “Apollo projects of our times.” One of them was the goal for the United States to be “the first country to have a million electric vehicles on the road by 2015.”
“Whether we meet that goal in 2015 or 2016, that’s less important than that we’re on the right path to get many millions of these vehicles on the road,” an unnamed Energy Department official told Reuters.
Reuters notes that “demand for hybrids and electric vehicles has been weaker than expected.”

During last week’s ice and snow storms, I was thankful to still have my big trusty old 4X4 truck. I wonder how well these “EVs” do in poor weather conditions, especially heavy snow?
My experience (we’re talking on paved roads here, not logging trails) based on 17 years of driving in Cleveland, is that tire selection and driver skill are paramount.
I suspect with a set of Blizzaks or Hakkapellittas, most EVs would be fine.
The truth is he never really gave a crap! He just said it to sound green and get elected. Now that he has been re elected he doesn’t even bother to lie about it.
Yep, those DOE loans and subsidies were what it was all about, now that the heats on those EV’s aren’t as important.
Yep, few realize that most of what these people do is ROB us of wealth all wrapped up in green packaging, or any other packaging that they can use such as health care. Bad enough that they rob from us, but they make us borrow the money that they steal from us so we end up not only broke, but in huge debt. They sure do have a lot of gall, and somehow we all let them get away with it.
Ah, but that’s in Cleveland. What about out on country roads and lanes with steep hills and curves (like where I live)?
Wonder why this never made the MSM or even the talkies ?
Regime goof up announced on Friday evening while the nation is focused on seizing guns,balacing the budget, girls to serve on front lines as combat soldiers, Boy Scouts allow diviator members, and supersonic planes are going to terrorists.
Gee, if you didn’t post this we still probably never know thousands of $60 “G’s” per unit tax funded electric vehicles was a mistake.
And then there are below zero temps to deal with.
