Religious nonprofits and secular for-profit businesses have filed more than 40 lawsuits, claiming the mandate violates their religious beliefs.
WASHINGTON The Obama administration on Friday proposed a work-around for religious nonprofits that object to providing health insurance that covers birth control.
The government's new regulation attempts to create a barrier between religious groups and contraception coverage, through insurers or a third party, that would still give women free access to contraception. It wasn't immediately clear whether religious leaders would accept the new approach, or whether it would stem the tide of lawsuits by Roman Catholic charities and other faith-affiliated nonprofits nationwide challenging the requirement to provide such coverage.
The Catholic Health Association, a trade group for hospitals, and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops separately had no immediate reaction, saying they were studying the regulations. Policy analyst Sarah Lipton-Lubet of the American Civil Liberties Union said the rule appeared to meet the ACLU's goal of providing "seamless coverage" of birth control for the affected women.

if a program needs a work around, the program is defective.
Well put!
Basically allowing them to pay someone different for what they feel it wrong to pay in the first place. No different at all.
They are offering the Bishops a way to give up gracefully.
I thought this was already offered and the Bishops said no.
If it comes from Obama they better read the fine print.
Ideally, the welfare men and women should have their tubes tied until they have jobs and situations that are conducive to raising children that won’t become criminals and/or leeches.
Also, anyone crossing our borders illegally gets sterilized immediately. The trash is piling up and has infested our government.
Thumbs down, Obama.
Its an offer of plausible deniability.
The parties have already rejected this.
This isn’t Islam Barry, we don’t do 10 minute weddings, and special rules on Tuesdays.
I suspect they are worried about how the SC will rule on the issue and are trying an end around approach.
Everyone here is right.
A horse of a different color is still a horse.
But zero keeps repainting the same old stuff to try and fool the low information folks....
Likely they are afraid of civil disobedience from catholic leaders from whom many democrat voters take their cue.
In the final judgement I don’t think God will let you go on a technicality.
Yes, that is his one and only purpose.
It’s like, “OK, so you don’t want us to kick you in the crotch? How ‘bout instead, we kick you in the crotch—is that better?”
What happened to our gov’t.??? Is Obama now our gov’t who can make and change rules as he sees fit???
The difference is they still have to pay for the birth control but nowe Barry is offering to let them lie about paying for it. Pretty sweet deal.
“Likely they are afraid of civil disobedience from catholic leaders from whom many democrat voters take their cue”
I think this is the bigger worry for them. We still wear the knife Roberts plunged into our backs. PR -Wise tough to get around the specter of Catholics vocally making a good case against this. Even to the low info morons it wouldnt be hard to make a case it will lead to forcing Catholic institutions to kill unborn babies (see what I mean?). We cannot rely on any branch of the Govt. and we have only the marginal chances in the public square to stop anything.
