This comment is from the blaze and is reproduced because it provides some interesting context. This event does have some anomalous features that are very troubling:

This are a few problems with this story. First of all, Rough Creek Lodge DOES NOT allow invitations to an open range without a guide. Really? A name like Chris Kyle would be wined an dined. Everyone on the property is registered. Make no mistake about that. WFAA reported witnesses say they saw the two men shot at 3:30 and saw the suspect drive off in a black truck but Stephenville police were not dispatched until 6:00p.m. Did the witnesses not dial 911? This is a high profile 5 star resort. These 3 men were not the only ones present today. It’s ironic that being in the second smallest county in the state of Texas, the has been no rumors or reports of what happened, where news ALWAYS travels like wildfire. Sandy Hook, Rough Creek, and other high profile murders.

One of the first statements on the matter said that Kyle had an open invitation there and didn't need a guide.

1. I've been there, everything is very spread out. You drive out to various ranges and you are pretty remote. You can have an area to your self for the entire day if you want.

2. I believe the first calls were at 3:30ish. The 6PM report was when Kyle's truck was reported seen.
