Syria Ready To Strike Israel With Scud Missiles, Whatever The Consequences

Pro-regime Syrian newspaper Al Diyar reported Friday that the army has loaded four Scud missiles, each with an explosive head of 500 kilograms, and is ready to strike Israel.

The newspaper also stated that the Syrian army command held a meeting Thursday evening to discuss a response to Israel, including striking research centers in Tel Aviv.

Mohammed Dirar Jammu, head of political and international relations at the World Organization of Arab expatriates, said to pro-Syrian regime TV channel Alakhbarya that "the Syrian military response to the Israeli bombing of the research center, in Damascus, will be earthshaking and staggering to Israel, very soon."

Jammu added: "The Syrian army will direct a strike to Israel. The strike will not be through Hezbollah or Iran, as the era of the Syrian silence towards the Israeli bombing of Syrian sites is over, even if it led to the outbreak of a war in the region."

That makes a ton of sense. They’re up to their armpits in a rebellion, and they pick a fight with the very capable neighbor next door.

Remember that Russia is Syria's ally....

We're at a Russia/USA stand off. And Hillary just took a big jab at Russia.

The consequences? Try Isaiah 17:1

Wow, four whole missiles, loaded with just HE. How many Patriot missiles does Israel have? They can probably salvo four interceptors at each and never miss the inventory...

As General Schwarzkopf pointed out during the Gulf War I, the Scud is a militarily insignificant weapon. It can be devastating to the individuals who are its victims, but it is more a terror or psychological or political weapon, it cannot change the balance of power.

Of course, a successful Scud attack by Syria may impel Israeli leaders, for political reasons, to strike back, but their retaliation is likely to be more militarily significant.

SCUD has a 20 minute warm up / fueling time and generates a loud electromagnetic signature during fuel up. One thing a SCUD is not is a suprise weapon.

20 minutes to an F16 is a long distance, something Syria is not.

To paraphrase Isaiah 17, In the evening there is trouble, by morning its over, and Damascus is a heap of ruins.

Four million people in Damacus. Not a good move Assad.

If I were a madman dictator, I would invite an Israeli ground war and withdraw my forces north, hoping that the rebels would be killed or pushed into my arms. I would then sue for peace as Israel reached my lines.

Basically a V-2 Rocket, it is a launch and pray weapon. Saddam got lucky once during Destert Storm and hit a barracks in Riyad. Good luck Assada... Cause if he launches he is going to be Fried Steak.

hehe

Israel monitors location of Syrian forces and wouldn’t be distracted from destroying them by any ‘rebels’.

Might have worked in WWII though.

One thing about these Ayrabs when they make threats they come up with some hum-dingers of threats. Earth shattering, Staggering, Armageddon.

Great rhetoric.

Assad might be willing to gamble that the anti-government forces, especially those backed by Iran, would rather fight Israelis than him.

Unite against a common enemy. Rebel guns turn west due to venomous hatred of Israel and forget about what they were rebelling against.

Proxy war starts.
Industrial military complex spins up.
Everyone forgets about world monetary collapse.
Banks fleece, governments destroy liberty, food and material rations in the name of victory.

The future is bright!

Syria has SCUD-Ds from wiki

Unlike previous Scud versions, the 9K720(SCUD D) had a warhead that separated from the missile's body, and was fitted with its own terminal guidance system. With a TV camera fitted in the nose, the system could compare the target area with data from an onboard computer library.[9] In this way, it was thought to attain a Circular Error Probable (CEP) of 50 m, while retaining the 300 km range of the Scud-B.[5]

Nice plan, to bad the rebels own the north. Inviting a ground war puts loyal troops between two hostile forces. Not good!

Not going to happen. Still, if could be used as a distraction and might be effective with Iranian Terror attack in Europe, or Hamas rockets in Gaza? Maybe even a hit on the USA. Superbowl Sunday would be an ideal time for an attack—when Americans are focused on the big game. Still, I think its all Hot Air.

I admit I used futuristic hyperbole, however we only need to look at history to find the very actions I described. One match can start a devestating fire.

If Assad is resorting to such desperate measures for self preservation, where does he draw the line? Iran has been itching for a fight for decades. Russia’s primary exports are military hardware. Its also one of ours.

Not hard to put the pieces together.
