Eric Schmidt, Google's executive chairman, has predicted China will be the world's most 'sophisticated hacker' in his new book predicting the future of technology.

His new book 'The Digital Age' co-written by Jared Cohen, who runs Google Ideas, the search giant’s think tank, believe that China, is 'the most sophisticated and prolific hacker of foreign companies'.

They also say that the country is the 'the world's most active and enthusiastic filterer of information', highlighting how China strongly censors information from outside, carefully selecting what its population can access.

The Wall Street Journal, who reviewed the book, say that the book concentrates on how China's government and state companies are willing to use cyber crime - giving the increasingly powerful state 'an economic and political edge'.

The Google pair examine how China's readiness to commit cyber crime is a 'difference in values' from other countries such as America - meaning the country will spy on big businesses compared to other states that crack down on such activity.

The duo predict that China will only continue to grow in terms of influence, as their technological firms become more competitive and more advanced.

They have been practicing for years on a large scale. It has become something they have worked on for a long time.

I know the guy that has the most successful security software company for mainframe computers. IBM tried to buy his, ended up acquiring the 2nd best from holland.

This guy wrote the UN policy for mainframe computer security.

China approached him and wanted to have him put a company in China, only two requirements, hire Chinese and source code must be in the country.

he knew how dangerous it would be to put source code in their hands for security and declined. IBM however did put an office in China and you have to ask if they put their source code for security there. Can you imagine the danger posied if they had access to source code.

The Chinese now manufacture most of the world’s computer hardware (they can modify firmware). They also insist on knowing the source code of software companies that do business in China. Both of these facts pose a major threat to national security and is one of the main reasons why I oppose what is called “free-trade”. We need to bring home most manufacturing, especially computers and telecommunications equipment. We need to stop arguing over free-trade. It does not exist on an international level and it has never existed.
