Should I Become a Woman and Risk Causing Pain to My Wife and Children?
New York Times ^ | February 1, 2013 | CHUCK KLOSTERMAN

I’ve been living the life of a married man for 20 years. I have a successful career and three children. All this time, however, I have battled gender dysphoria and the deep sadness that comes from living a lie. From the earliest age, I’ve been unhappy being male. I believed I would find happiness only once I was true to myself. I recently had my self-diagnosis confirmed, and I’m initiating a transition to living as the real me. There is a cost involved: pain to my family and stress on my career. Ethically, is it right to be “true to myself” even if that authenticity ends my otherwise happy marriage and damages the emotional stability of my three children? If I had to maintain the lie, the emotional cost would be tremendous; a transition would share the pain with all who love me but might result in happiness. What’s the ethically correct thing to do? God made the sexual desire so crazy in order to ensure procreation. Obviously this guy gave in to his sexual desires, there is proof as he has children. He's just nuts, hopefully he'll decide to quite trying to be something he can NEVER be no matter how many hormones or how much surgery he has.

I have trouble not seeing this as some bizarre control agenda psychologists are pushing on men. Why are all these guys being told that the “magic answer” to all their problems is lopping off their body parts and wearing high heels?

As a woman, it’s horribly offensive for these neutered males to call themselves “female”. It’s like some idiot minstrel show that we’re asked to accept seriously at face value.

If this isn’t an agenda, why aren’t they simply prescribing hormone suppressants? Easily reversible and doesn’t ruin lives or mess with the plumbing.

You may be on to something there. I almost gag every time I see that commercial about the No-No gadget where the guy is shaving his chest. But evidently men having hair on their bodies is becoming something unattractive. What is wrong with a man having hair on his chest?

I knew someone too - don’t know what’s become of he/she/it but I did see their name on a email that went by my desk so I assume they’re still working in their job.

Three things I learned:

This individual apparently took a blow to the head about 3 years before they went public. Some people that knew him/her said that the blow to the head must have knocked a screw loose.

This individual was trying to ask me for tips on how to get the state or the insurance company to pay for their medical care/surgery.

This individual had to take female hormones for year prior to having the chopping procedure. They said that one day they noticed that they were crying for no reason and for something that wouldn’t have made them cry previously. That one observation/statement gave me great insight into how women are emotionally made up. Maybe I’m not the first one to have ever realized this (duh) but female hormones and tears for no reason are definitely linked. It’s just not often that you can do such a biological experiment and use the person themselves as the “control” subject.

Check out this bilge from the "ethicist" at the NYTimes who actually APOLOGIZES for his hesitancy in advising this guy to go get his natural parts chopped off:
This advice might seem reactionary, but it’s not a position on whether transitioning is ethical in and of itself. There’s no inherent ethical problem with that decision. It’s about the possibility of improving one life at a greater cost to three others who might lack the intellectual and emotional maturity to comprehend what’s really happening.
"Intellectual and emotional maturity"?????? Of the type that guides the Times itself, no doubt.

You'd be killing a male specimen to become a female which would result in half suicide. Spare us, go all the way.

True, but please don't use a gun. Then it will be counted as another gun-related death. /s

Guns are not for sissies.

How about sleeping pills for sleeping beauty.

*stand in front of full-frame mirror*

*schlap the $hit outta him/herself*

*rinse and repeat as necessary*

Here's the big secret about "gender dysphoria." The minute you walk into a shrink and say anything that sounds like you feel like a member of the opposite sex you have just rung the dinner gong. They see dollar signs, and rightfully so, and will do nothing to dissuade you.

So what's the secret? One word: Zoloft

I had a guy working for me in the mid-nineties who started down this road. At some point his counselor said he was depressed so he went to a psychiatrist who prescribed Zoloft. He started taking it and voila his gender dysphoria cleared up along with his depression.

He looked up Zoloft in the PDR and low and behold, it is listed as effective for obsessive compulsive disorders. He told me that he realized then that, as real as it seemed to him, it was actually an obsession. He changed therapists and sought help from that point of view and in 2 or 3 years it was gone and has stayed gone for almost 20 years now. He's happy, well-adjusted and married with a daughter.

But they won't tell you that because there's no money it for them.

I would suggest a conversion to Buddhism or Hinduism. He is a man and always will be in this life. Perhaps he can dream about getting lucky with reincarnation, but that is in his "next life". In this life, he has a responsibility to the children he brought into the world and to the wife he promised to love, honor, and cherish.

This is such a stupid, mindless question, and I am disgusted with the liberals who pretend that men have a choice on whether to remain male. Castration-plus does not change your sex, just your ability to function sexually.

A good pastor, priest, or rabbi will be far more effective than a surgeon.

Or even an honest psychiatrist, if there are any.
