I have certainly supported some of the ideas Ron Paul has championed in the past, and some aspects of the libertarian point of view.

That's true, and recently we haven't seen many even half decent candidates. I'd like to see a Republican candidate who wasn't faking his conservatism and could organize and execute a viable campaign. Hopefully we'll see some in 2016.
