President Obama claimed Monday that a "consensus" is forming around the kinds of "common-sense" gun control measures he's pushing in Washington, in his first campaign-style stop as part of a second-term push for new firearms laws.

Obama claims ‘nonsense’ forming around gun control proposals
I noticed something in the sound bites from the Obama anti-gun rally in Minnesota, this morning.
First, they were touting the steps that Minnesota was taking to step up gun security, but said that they needed to go further with background checks. The sheriff agreed and went on to say that Minnesota needed to do something about the mentally ill getting guns through more background checks. Then, the guy added, oh not the mentally ill who are receiving treatment, just the ones who aren’t being treated at all. It was just plain nuts. how the heck would a background check determine if someone is mentally ill if the person was not being treated?
Isn’t he the same person that said the health care debate would be open and on C-Span? I seem to recall that was then done behind closed and locked doors. This man has a problem with truth.
Pretty good idea. That way, it’s up to the individual citizen to make the choice to sell a firearm or not. The sort of thing that citizens are perfectly equipped to do better than government.
Never. There is no encroachment, on any Right, that did not start out as a ‘recommendation’; seat belt laws for example.
I, for one, will never support any background check. I will happily pay the extra $$ to know my hand-shake and trading of metal for $$ will be the end of the line, as far as the State/Fed are concerned.
As much as no bill has cost what it was estimated, so to no nose under the tent should be allowed; for while I, as a Citizen, am obligated to obey the Law, those that derive the power from the same Citizens, willfully try to place their boot upon our necks.

Unfortunately for Obama, we are NOT ruled by concensus
but by a Constitution and Bill of Rights.
