Drug laws, especially for something as harmless and mainstream as pot, empower the government in ways few other regulations can.
I think if you saw widespread legalization, you'd see a short term increase in use that would level off, then it would dwindle down to whatever it is now. People who want to smoke it are smoking it.
The good thing about pot is that it is one of the few intoxicants that doesn't overall lead to an increase in violent or dangerous behavior, unless you want to call sitting around watching TV and eating Doritos dangerous.
Add me to the pro list. Nanny-staters can pretend that they’re conservative all they want. Bureaucratic control and police state laws governing mild intoxicants at the federal level are no more conservative than the 18th Amendment.
Not really. I don't know any liberty-loving supporter of limited government who still supports the failed Drug War in it's current state.
You must hang out with a lot of GOP establishment types; they're really the only ones still hanging onto outdated big government schemes like marijuana prohibition:

It's more like the GOP establishment and the old money Democrats are teaming up to push back against legalization. The only Republicans who are still gung-ho anti-pot are guys like Frum who still supports bans on "assault weapons" and "high capacity magazines".
Granted, legalization is supported by both sides, but for totally different reasons (leftists want the tax revenue, conservatives want to decrease FedGov police power that accompanies the Drug War).
Still, there's fewer and fewer people out there who still believe that FedGov prohibition of a relatively harmless plant and limited government are part of the same philosophy.
Pot legalization is one of those rare issues like SOPA where you're likely to have some crossover. But don't pretend like there's any sort of mystery as to where a true "limited government" supporter should stand.
The funny thing about a forum is that is solicits varied opinions, presumably in a civil format.

Spouting off out of complete and utter ignorance is no excuse imho. Did you two get all your info from government studies? Do you also believe in ‘Global Warming’ b/c they say so, in spite of over 10 years of no warming?
Thanks for your kind remarks, I too found that many of my friends and co-workers were divorced when I was first separated in the eraly 90’s and later divorced.
