Okay, I get it, an AK is not an AR. But it's still an appropriate photomeme.

Why do I “need” an AR-15? Why did Rosa Parks “need” to sit down on the bus?

Since the massacre in Newtown, Conn., in December, the AR-15, the military-style weapon that the police say was used in the shootings, has been selling fast here and across the nation. Military-style.....how frightening!

I read it said something like this “ I need my guns just as much as Rosa Parks needed to sit at the front of the bus”.
Both versions work I think.

To bad many Americans waited until any purchase of an AR type weapon was recorded and tracked by the feds and state!

And to think, in the 1970s no one wanted one except me. You could not get people interested in them.
Their words were...”Will it kill a deer?” “It costs too much”!
“Too small”. “Too plasticky”. “What good is it?”
Even the gun magazines panned the AR-15 as too small for deer, not accurate enough for varmints, blah blah blah.
Then Mel Tappan wrote his book on SURVIVAL GUNS, then started writing a survival column in GUNS AND AMMO MAGAZINE. Suddenly Ars were hot! Add to that Jimmy Carter’s total incompetence in the Iran situation and Americans started arming with ARs, early AKs, AR-180s,
H&Ks. Korean, Australian, Austrian, The .223 took off like a rocket.
Yet they were still so far off the anti-gun radar that HCI still issued a statement that they “Only wanted to control handguns! Long guns would not be affected”.

I went out yesterday and stopped at Wal-Mart. A couple of weeks ago they only had a couple boxes of rifle cartridges and some shotgun shells.
This time they had about half filled their ammo display. I still didn’t see any .22 LR, or 9mm, .223 or .45 auto. They did have about all the other common ones such as .270, 30-06, .243, 40 S&W etc.
I think the shortage is not going to last all that much longer for ammo. This is a small wal-Mart and their long gun display was full. I did notice no ARs and they had 4 of various makes on display for months.

"With ads celebrating the rifles military connections, they lured a new and eager audience to weapons that, not long ago, few serious gun enthusiasts would buy. "
Oh B.S.
Those that had one before 'the craze' did so because, like most rifles chambered in military calibers,
ammunition was easy to find & relatively cheap.
And most of the buyers were familiar with them from military service...

I got a nice AK in .223. Shoots fine. How did I get it? I had a junk AR-15 that turned it’s bullets sideways made of salvage parts by SGW, now OLYMPIC.
When Clinton started with his AW ban I took it to a gunshow and traded it for a real nice AK. I bought lots of ammo for it, then after I was home I saw it was in .223, not .30 RS.
Oh well, I just had to find something to shoot up that Russian short ammo in so I found a real nice SKS.
I still wish I had my HOWA AR-180! :-(

I still subscribe to the statement of General Laney of Motor City Sportsman’s Association.
“When someone burns a cross on your lawn, the best fire hose is an AK-47.”(or an AR)

.223 AK’s are not that prevalent.
Siaga makes a hunting version as does Molot.
Other than that they are pretty scarce.

Every time I see those pictures it really bothers me. I have no idea if they are guilty or not but seeing soldiers shooting what looks to be little more than children, in the back of the head just makes me think of the SS, Stalin’s execution of the entire Polish officer corps at Katyn etc.
It is good to also remember that the U.S. supported the Russian lies until fairly recently.

I don’t get it. I got a tanker M1A with a scope, infra red, laser pointer, and night vision and just as happy as a clam. I saved up from the Clinton BS years. Why would I need an AR 15?

Frank needs a refresher on trigger discipline.
At the Pasadena Pawn and Gun Shop in Maryland, customers can join a waiting list to buy an AR-15-style rifle. Its kind of fashionable, Frank Loane Sr., the shops proprietor, said of the gun.
