You know some , perhaps many of these guns wind up in personal collections of various officials and officers. Many confiscated weapons go into evidence rooms and aren’t there when rare audits are done so why would buybacks have a different outcome? TIt ise a way to get extra “drop guns” and personal weapons paid for by the taxpayers.
I’ve lived in Columbus and also near Kennesaw, Georgia, where it is the law that every household have a gun. I’ll go with the Kennesaw model. It is almost crime free.
So.....I know a guy who look advantage of one of these "Anonymous buybacks". He had an old 8mm Mauser - said that the receiver tended to fail under modern loads, he wouldn't shoot it, and he didn't feel right just "unloading" (pardon the pun) it on someone.
Anyhoo, guy goes to the ANONYMOUS buyback. Police Dept gives him a lengthy form to fill out. "No, do you want this or not?", approximately, was the guy's reaction.
Additionally, there was a TV film crew there. They wanted permission to film him "handing over the guns". His reaction to the newsweasels can't be put on FR.
So much for anonymity. As an aside, he said that he was yakking with the local chief of police and only seven (7) people had bothered to show up for the buyback, and it was pretty late in the day. However, that didn't prevent the news from covering it like it was the Super Bowl....they just neglected to mention the turnout.
I wish I could get there. I’ve got an old single shot .22 that I got when I was a kid. The sights are missing and the stock is cracked but I think it will still fire. I could get $200 that I could put toward a new AR.
Cool!
At least they're up front about it -- but this means that almost all the guns that they collect will be cheap or broken junk. Or turned in by individuals who can't read.
Actually, if I were near by, I would turn in some guns I inherited. I have several single shot 12 gage shotguns. These cost all of 3 to 5 dollars from a Sears catalog when they were bought somewhere around a century ago. They have broken stocks, rusted parts, and I wouldn't trust them with blanks. If I could sell them for $200 each, I'd take it in a heartbeat.

“Honest people hand in their guns, the criminals won’t.
Criminals from out of town can now feel safer going there.
How exactly is that making the town safer?”

These ideas come from people who say that conservatives are inconsistent when they support the death penalty for convicted murderers but are against “late term” abortion yet somehow they are consistent because they reverse those two stands. Anyone with an ounce of gray matter knows that if the conservative stand is inconsistent the mirror image stand that the left wing takes cannot possibly be consistent, either both are inconsistent or both are consistent. If consistency means that those who support the death penalty for murder must support abortion then consistency means that left wingers who oppose the death penalty for murder must oppose abortion. Left wing nutcases simply have no use for logic, if they understand it at all they simply pretend not to.
Please be aware Americans that if you are dealing with those who support the left wing view you are dealing with people who are either incapable of logical thinking or so evil that they pretend not to understand logic if it conflicts with their evil intent, they may be either one but they MUST be one or the other. This is not simply a matter of a difference of opinion. To imagine so is to leave yourself wide open.
I am opposed to these “buybacks” because they are useless but even if there was some benefit in crime reduction, why would they offer more money for a rifle or shotgun than they would for a handgun.
Is there a rash of crimes being committed with Remington 700s and Mossberg 500s?
A lot of ratchet guns are finally going to be worth some money.
Police chiefs have no opinions or attitudes. When they talk to reporters, they are voicing the opinions of the politicians who appoint them (but who may not want those opinions directly attributed to them).
Junk would be the only thing I would turn in.
Proud to be a gun free home with a big picture of a gun with a line through it.

If paid enough, I may be apt to put up such a sign.
BUT, I would probably be assessed much more than whatever they could pay when some guys lawyer was suing me and using the sign to prove I ‘baited’ the thief.

troodat Selvain & Kabir be bruddahs of a diffrunt muddah.
Would post pics but for being HTMiLiterate.
Yeah I have seen it too, but for greater impact, a video of Gang Bangers choosing their prey from the Voluntary Disarmament lines would go viral if done properly, say like using REAL incidents and pretending you are CBS and FAKE EVERYTHING up to the point of the Crime.
BB and air guns for $20? That sounds like a money making proposition to me. Here’s a cheap airsoft pistol set for $7.25 with free shipping:
Is there a limit on the number of guns one can sell?
