Cook County (Chicago) IL adopts new gun law
Firearms owners will be required to report loss or sale of guns

Firearms owners in suburban Cook County will face fines up to $2,000 if they don't report to police when their guns are lost, stolen or sold, under an ordinance county commissioners approved Tuesday.
The plan, pushed by County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, will apply to all areas of the county where a similar law is not already on the books. It will not apply within the city of Chicago, which has its own firearms statutes.
The board approved the new rules without debate or opposition, minutes after commissioners honored Hadiya Pendleton, the 15-year-old girl whose fatal shooting last week has come to symbolize the epidemic of violence in Chicago.

Aren’t the politicians supposed to report any sales of their office?
This is awesome! This should completely eliminate gun murders in the future. Well played, Cook county!
Heh, heh...
Were trying to move ahead with the things that are under our control, Board President Toni Preckwinkle said after the meeting Tuesday. Certainly we would like national legislation for these issues, but were going to do what we can in Cook County.
“Cook County Commissioner Jesús Chuy Garcia (D-Chicago) was the chief sponsor of the legislation. “
How does this make 2A rights in the USA any different that religious rights in Stalinist Russia?
You are free to voluntarily be persecuted.
This encourages me to stay even further away from Chicago ~ every time they pass a gun law the murder rate goes up.
:: if they no longer have their firearms for any reason. ::
This assumes that the County is aware of the firearm in the first place, no? It’s already been settled that a FOID is evidence of ownership or even intent to own.
So, how many “low information shooters” actially told Crook County they had a gun in their home?
...FOID is ^NOT^ evidence...
No more giving gifts of firearms to friends or family without registration with Cook County.

Exploiting teen’s death, Cook County board pushes through more gun laws
Cook CountyFirearms owners in suburban Cook County will face fines up to $2,000 if they don’t report to police when their guns are lost, stolen or sold under an ordinance commissioners approved today.
The plan, pushed by County Board President Toni Preckwinkle (D), will apply to all areas of the county where a similar law is not already on the books. It will not apply within the city of Chicago, which has its own firearms statutes.
The County Board approved the new rules by a voice vote with no opposition. The vote came just minutes after commissioners honored Hadiya Pendleton, the 15-year-old girl who was fatally shot last week.
Fine. Inundate them with a dozen reports per week, from every gun owner, for every moment when the firearm was out of sight... complete with small random "errors" in address, gun model, serial number, etc etc etc.
There are apparently no sane people left running Cook county. Condolences to all in Cook county....if they can make you report a sale of guns, what will keep them from requiring the reporting of the sale of ANYTHING under the threat of physical and economic violence?
Yes...I’m SURE they’re going to enforce this new law in the ‘hoods on da Souf Side. No doubt the Gangster Disciples, Black Disciples and Latin Kings will dutifully obey THIS law.
Sure they'll enforce that law city-wide... Right.
“With zero debate or discussion during the regular county board meeting, commissioners approved the gun-control ordinance, which the Chicago Sun-Times first reported last month. The new ordinance, which takes effect in August, will require firearm owners in suburban Cook County to report the make, model and serial number of lost, stolen, sold, transferred or destroyed firearms to the sheriff within 48 hours. It also empowers the sheriff to share that information with local law enforcement. Fines for violators start at $1,000.”
We can pass every gun law in the world. We can get rid of them. The problem will still remain, said Commissioner Earlean Collins, a West Side Democrat,. It isnt just about guns, its about a whole culture change. Its about a real commitment to deal with it and address the problems of poverty, ignorance and disease and economic despair in those communities where people have lost all hope and respect and the values that we all cherish.

“Jesse Jackson, a resident of Chicago, joined other Chicagoans who have lost relatives to gunfire in stating that in order for the deadly rate of shootings in Chicago to be abated, Barack Obama needs to pay a visit to his hometown.”
Translation: Earlean agrees with Jesse Jackson saying “we Obama voters need reparations and government tax dollars instead of more laws.”
I'm glad I read further and saw your correction before replying.
I've used my F.O.I.D. before when asked for a picture Id. and it was accepted. I've never been asked at the polls for any kind of Id. however.
I confess that in the vein of the serenity prayer, I kinda laugh at all this stuff. Our culture is so screwed up it’s really hard not to laugh. I’m reminded of the Gary Larson cartoon where the child porcupine is on the floor playing with a balloon and the father porcupine is in his easy chair. He looks at his son over the top of his newspaper and says, “This won’t last long.”
And, in the historical context, neither will this. It’s why I’m all over precious metals and solar/wind power on my new farm in central KY, which I moved to from my Seattle home of 45 years in 2011.
And lets be frank. If what is happening was handled properly, as a movie it would be hilarious. You could call it something like “Idiocracy”.
In other news ... Cook County prepares for massive flooding as Lake Michgigan water levels rise by 3 feet in July.
Punish thee legal gun owners, let me count thy ways...
“lost, stolen or sold, “?
Nothing about giving them away.
