Most Liberals despise the Pledge of Allegiance because they say that you are praising a piece of cloth ("All that for a damn Flag!!)

What the Liberals don't realize (or ignore) is the pledge is not only to a flag..."but to the Republic, for which it stands". The pledge is a pledge of allegiance (i.e., a show of patriotism) to America. When Liberals began to protest saying the pledge in school, it was the beginning of the decline in America.

Friedman said that in a world without "liberty and justice for all," the pledge has lost its meaning

It is a world without liberty and justice for all. But he is not pledging allegiance to the world. Just to America, where Liberty is enshrined in our Constitution and Justice is blind.

Oh sure, there is corruption. Man sins. But that is the whole point taking/making the pledge. You pledge to honor the ideal and not be corrupt. Very important imho for public figures especially.

“Friedman said that in a world without “liberty and justice for all,” the pledge has lost its meaning.”

I don’t understand how people say “under God” with a straight face (given the abortion/gay marriage/divorce issues); that phrase alone is why the pledge will disappear. As long as there is a Bible (and Torah, and Koran), the leftist freaks trying to distort those faiths into a liberal agenda are doomed to fail (as have any attempts to re-create God as a permissive lib). Since they can’t discredit the source, they must discredit He who inspired the authors.

I wonder how nut jobs like this get elected.

Perhaps they don’t divulge their lack of love of country until after they are elected.

To me this man should find someplace else to live.

Certainly liberty and justice is a proper goal for us all to thrive for, but too many people believe liberty and justice means not having to work and receiving charity from those who do.

In his argument to end the custom, Friedman said that in a world without "liberty and justice for all," the pledge has lost its meaning. And in an interconnected global society, relationships between people have become more important than diplomatic ties between nation-states.

Either an ignorant twit or deliberately misinforming. Those who oppose Freedom always cherry-pick, whether it be the Bible, the Constitution, or any other good work. He is saying that we cannot praise the USA for being "one Nation under God, with Liberty and Justice for all" because all the socialists in the world and all the dictators who oppress their people don't provide what we set as a standard. Like any Lefty, he would rather destroy the good that exists than raise those who suffer out of the depths because in the interim "it just ain't fair that Freedom exists in some places but not others".

“We are one planet,” Friedman said.

NO, WE ARE NOT. This is the kind of BS they’ve been peddling in the EUSSR for a decade. “Well, we live in the age of mass communication, so we might as well get rid of the nations and all just be citizens of the planet.”

This is what Stalin and his ilk wanted. The nation state is part of who we are. This crackpot should be deported.

“...in a world without “liberty and justice for all...”

There’s the point. The pledge of allegiance is *not* to “the world”, as socialists would like, but to the United States, a nation.

And socialists do not like nations, as they see them as meaningless social constructs, like they see marriage, and nuclear families, and (other peoples) money, and religion, etc.

To socialists, the pledge of allegiance is just like making them worship to God that they do not believe exists, to admitting that people are different, that nations have a value, that symbols of nationality are important, that a Republican form of government is better than a feudal socialist one with an elite and a peasantry, and that the nation is a united whole without socialism being needed at all.
