TRUMKA: IMMIGRATION TALKS WITH CHAMBER OF COMMERCE 'GOING WELL'
Breitbart.com ^ | 8 Feb 2013 | William Bigelow

AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka is boasting that the negotiations he is conducting with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce regarding immigration reform are “going well.”

The AFL-CIO and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), which both represent labor, are trying to cajole the Chamber, which represents business, to come along with their plans for temporary workers.

Trumka was confident that this time, unlike 2007 when talks failed because there was not enough common ground regarding temporary workers, things would go smoothly, saying, “I think they are going well. We have been working in good faith with the Chamber, and I continue to be hopeful.”

Trumka is pushing Tom Donohue, the Chamber’s president and CEO, to accept the need for “a data-driven system” which would decide where temporary workers are needed.

Instead of a system being out there that’s the whim of any employer, it would be a data-driven system by an independent group that would decide if there are shortages and where they are. In the meantime, that would take a little while to set up… We would have a transitional system of visas in the meantime to meet shortages… until that data-driven system is set up.

Trumka’s proposal is roughly what the AFL-CIO and the Change to Win labor federation tried to push in August 2009.

Big Labor is gearing up to push the idea; the AFL-CIO is planning 14 major events to launch the initiative in major cities in the next month. Maria Elena Durazo, executive secretary-treasurer for the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, said:

Remember how labor helped pass healthcare reform, how we helped elect and reelect President Obama? That's exactly how we are going to help pass sensible, humane immigration reform with citizenship for over 11 million people.

I bet they are. More union members, more employee cost shifting to government and more Democrat voters. What’s not to like?

So? Neither was elected to represent the American people. They're just two different special interest groups.

Leave the law and representation to congress. These two have no business trying to write immigration law. It's not their job.

Never lose sight of what Labor is after....More Dues Money. If they can strike some kind of immigration reform deal which will facilitate more union dues they will champion it.

Seriously. The union and business leaders are negotiating what we're going to have to accept when it comes to OUR country and immigration (which will become OUR responsibility afterwords - not theirs).
Who are these people, and who died and made them congress? I don't remember these guys being elected to congress, do you? I certainly didn't vote for them. I don't even remember them running.

Immigration reform isn't about boosting unions. It isn't about cheep labor. It's suppose to be about our entire country, not just a few big wigs who will benefit financially from it. C'mon!
We the people are going to get screwed and stuck with the additional cost no matter which of these two interest groups wins the most points!

This issue should not be about THEM and THEIR wallets. It should be about us and the consequences WE will have to deal with later.

From low wage SEIU labor - SUBSIDIZED low wage labor. The union rakes in their cash while we're paying all their living expenses. What a deal!

Yep. The unions take their dues, business gets their cheap labor, and we tax payers got to subsidize their rent, food stamps, education, health care, entertainment, clothing expenses........
What a great deal for every American - NOT!

He doesn't have to threaten the Chamber. They are willing accomplices for illegals' amnesty. Always have been.

Supporters of Illegal Alien Amnesty, and the Chamber of Commerce....guess what....you are also AFL-CIO supporters, too

The US Chamber of Commerce should just change their name to the Anti-American Collective of Communists. Not only they support and push Illegal Alien Amnesty...they are the biggest supporters of the Communist Chinese

More proof that, if you are not in favor of 100% Deportation of all Illegal Aliens...you’re most likely a Liberal
