i was in a jury pool a few years back - a young black man - probably 18 was charged with statutory rape of a “child” - pretrial case info delivered by the atty stated the girl was 1 week from being “legal” - the pool groaned in unison - why it even came to trial amazed us- all - it was quickly thrown out once everyone on the pool was seated
Although the courts have no flexibility, pity, sympathy, or common sense with regards to the the letter of the law, most police have a "3 year rule", if the age difference is less that three years, they can't be bothered, unless a well connected parent forces them to be.
