The instrument known as the fork was invented by the Fijiians. Made of wood & about two feet long for convenience in dining at long-pig banquets.
The French eat quite a bit of horsemeat. I’ve seen butcher shops in France where there would be a horse head painted on the front glass indicating horse meat was sold there.
In the documentary film “The Sky Above, The Mud Below”, I believe, human flesh was know as ‘long meat’.
Ate grilled horse meat at a restaurant once while stationed in Italy.
Wasn’t bad...very lean piece of meat. No, it didn’t taste like chicken (or glue).
I, like another commenter above, hope this business method has not illegally immigrated to the USA. I like Aldi’s.
No desire to consume the flesh of man, thanks. There are plenty of critters on the planet for us to consume. Humans should be one of those “end times” meals.
Looks like poor or nonexistant supplier QC at the Aldi company - I’m sure shareholders will take note.
Me too...I hope it's Arabian Quarter Horse and not Shetland Pony...
Horsemeat is normal sustenance in any European country whose history includes war, siege, or enemy occupation. During retreat in combat during both World Wars the roads were littered with dead horses. Freshly killed animals were quickly put to use.
The French also have a dish (among many unusual ones) called “steak americaine”, aka steak tartare or what in Wisconsin we call a cannibal sandwich. They extol the virtues of this particular dish in that it encourages a healthy immune system. In Milwaukee the secret is black rye bread, horseradish, & lots of hot sauce. Not so bad.
The citizens and defenders of Vicksburg got over their “taste” for mule.
I shop at Aldi also....and the US locations are not affected. Most of their US store items are from US suppliers...except for some of the Deutsche Kuche products.
The horsemeat problem is Euro wide...and not just Aldi.
This scandal is brewing in the UK and Europe right now and involved “beef” products that originated in Poland and Romania. More details are likely to come in the days ahead.
Where does the beef we eat originate from....I honestly don’t know all the answers to that.
long pig.
The root of the problem? The root of the problem is lying and stealing. It is a moral issue. When an individual cares not for virtue, a society soon follows. And all the paper and laws in the world can’t stop it.
I have a book titled “A Civil War Sampler” (1961) containing letters, dispatches, proclamations & a “menu” (excerpted) composed by a besieged Confederate soldier:

Never ask what the ‘Mystery Meat’ really is.
They must have let some get by.. have had sever food posioning for 2 weeks until addressed by my doctor with 2 types of meds to combat.. my state board of health contacted me after the hospital contacted them with my lab results. What the hell did they sell.. I intend to look in to this further
not so funny.. still reeling from severe case of food poision. it began after i bought and then ate some beef? from Aldi’s Two scripts to kill a severe bacteria in my system. It all began 6 hours after I ate their so called beef
seriously not kewl comment..it is an absolute hell horses go thru when transported to these newly opened slaughter houses,.crammed in to cattle trailers, too many at a time. The weak or older ones are crushed by the others crammed in to those trailers..then the way they are killed and slaughtered?? In years past this stuff was sold to dog food companies..this because it was not safe or gov. approved for human consumption
Well this is NOT France.. is totally not accepted in the United States..We’ve plenty of beef lamb and pigs well chicken too.. Working with these wonderfully loyal beasts my whole life. They bond so with humans and are so eager to help or please.. is no need to slaughter and consume,,besides am certain now a severe bacteria am still fighting in my system appeared just hours after I bought beef?, from Aldi’s My state board of health is looking in to.. You people and these comments just sums up Americans in general...just sayin
