The Rising Voice of Gun Ownership Is Female
New York Times ^ | 02/12/2013 | Erica Goode

PAINESVILLE, Ohio — Mary Ann Froebe stood feet apart with knees slightly bent and aimed the .22-caliber Ruger semiautomatic.

“You’ve got some adrenaline running through you right now,” said Esther Beris, the coordinator of the northeastern Ohio chapter of A Girl and a Gun Women’s Shooting League. “It’s O.K., just relax.”

Ms. Froebe, 42, a small-business owner who described herself as a “virgin gun shooter,” concentrated and pulled the trigger. “It was awesome,” she said, her face flushed, after emptying the 10-round clip. “The sense of control, of being in charge of me.”

In the debate over firearms regulations, the voices of gun owners have largely been those of men. But at firing ranges across the country, a growing number of women are learning to use firearms and honing their skills.

Women’s participation in shooting sports has surged over the last decade, increasing by 51.5 percent for target shooting from 2001 to 2011, to just over 5 million women, and by 41.8 percent for hunting, according to the National Sporting Goods Association.

Gun sales to women have risen in concert. In a survey last year by the National Shooting Sports Foundation, 73 percent of gun dealers said the number of female customers had gone up in 2011, as had a majority of retailers surveyed in the two previous years.

Manufacturers have increasingly geared advertising toward women, marketing special firearms models with smaller frames, custom colors (pink is a favorite), and accessories like the “concealed carry” “salmon kiss” leather handbag offered by Cobra Firearms or the leopard shooting gloves and Bullet Rosette jewelry sold by Sweet Shot (“Look cute while you shoot!” is the company’s motto).

A couple of friends of mine were nervous about this gun grab and I re-assured them by explaining that one of the reasons the left abandoned gun laws is because more and more feminists have discovered guns as the great equalizer.

The gun grab is going nowhere. And part of the reason is the above. Another part is that more and more people are getting their news from the internet and discussing issues on Facebook, etc.

The truth really is getting out there.

One more time. A Ruger .22 semi-automatic pistol does NOT have a clip. It has a ten round magazine. I own two such pistols and several magazines. No clips involved, not even aligator clips.

Why would anyone think they would need to own a [fire extinquisher] when the [fire department] is there to protect you?

A woman with a gun is a hell of a deterrant to crime.
Guess the libs just can’t see that.

The NC-CCW course that I assist every other Saturday has seen a sharp increase in women. Sometimes there are more women than men in the classroom.
Granted, some women are doing it just because its the “in” thing to do. Some women in our class are very young and come in pairs, incessantly taking pictures of themselves to post to MyFace or SpaceBook or Twit whatever they do. We get the feeling they are there for a profile update and we pull them aside and remind them that this class is serious business. Not a photo shoot.
But thats a small percentage and most women are really serious about arming themselves and I think that is great.

Clip Clip Clip
I hate that word. ITS A MAGAZINE!
Someone asks me ‘how much does the clip hold?’ I say none, this gun does not use a clip, it uses a magazine. My AR can use a clip. My SKS can use a clip. My Russian 762x56 uses a clip. The others use magazines.

Just like ‘engine’ and ‘motor’. Someone says their car motor won’t run. I say ‘which one? you car has about a dozen motors in it. Only one engine”

Ha! Get up on the wrong side of the bed this morning? Kidding aside, I agree... It does get annoying but just demonstrates how important it is to take these “uninformed” folks to the range when the opportunity presents itself. Took a coworker who had never held a handgun to my range this weekend and he had a great time. Let him shoot a my S&W 22A, my 92FS and a Kimber 1911. He told me this morning that he’s talking with the wifey about getting a 9mm.

I thought that posting shots from one of Gordon Liddy’s

Someday I’ll win the lottery and a Kimber will be mine.

As I’ve said before, this issue crosses ideological lines. The idiot gun grabbers on the left AND the right are stepping in sh** big time pursuing this.

In my shooting club in NY we have a cross section of society including flaming liberals that are more militantly pro-gun than some of the conservatives. Then you have the “Golfers with Guns” who can be conservative on most issues but abhor us “rabble” with the black guns.

Agreed. But if combat is forced on them by an attacker, they should be armed and trained to resist it.
