The private property owner who owned the land that was subdivided into the lots. Anyone opposed to HOAs is basically opposed to private property rights.

Actually, developers put them in. These are covenants which run with the land who people who buy the house are forced to be in the HOA. It's similar to closed shop unions in away, hardly in favor of private property rights.

Developers are private property owners with the freedom to put in restrictions that maximize the value to buyers.
