Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer says she won't change her mind and allow illegal aliens granted administrative amnesty by President Barack Obama to get driver's licenses. And a court ruling last week has strengthened her case in doing so.
Brewer's comments Monday came after she was asked if she would change her mind following a January "clarification" by the Department of Homeland Security. That memo says illegal aliens granted "deferred action'' status ("Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals", or DACA) are "legally in the country".
Brewer says that didn't impress her and she's standing behind her August executive order barring them from getting licenses.
How typical for Obama's lapdog media to treat a DHS "memo" as if it were an act of Congress, with the full force of law, and hammer with Gov. Brewer questions for for not kowtowing to it.
Obama last July said people younger than 30 brought to the U.S. before they turned 16 could apply for "deferred action". They will be granted work permits and Social Security numbers. As SWA detailed at the time, Obama's amnesty order is ripe for abuse, as it has almost no safeguards against fraud.
Currently, Arizona, Iowa, and Nebraska prohibit driver's licenses to DACA recipients, while California, Texas and Florida grant the licenses. Michigan initially denied licenses - until the meaningless DHS memo was released, whereupon they reversed course and will now grant them. North Carolina is currently waffling over whether or not to do so.
Each state must decide the issue for itself, according to the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators, which said, "At the end of the day, it’s a state-issued document, and the state has the authority to determine who is eligible for that document."
But groups representing illegal aliens such as the ACLU (which should stand for Alien Criminals Liberation Union) don't see it that way, and have filed suit against Gov. Brewer and Arizona.
But last week, a federal judge blocked illegal aliens in the new "deferred action" program from arguing in court that they are being "irreparably harmed" by Gov. Jan Brewer's refusal.
Illegals in that case tried to argue that Brewer's order "severely frustrates their ability to obtain employment and achieve economic self-sufficiency." But they also got the judge to agree that they could not be questioned on HOW they gained employment and HOW they managed to be driving when it was illegal to do so - likely because they knew that such scrutiny might reveal numerous other criminal activities, such as identity theft.
But the judge wisely said they can't have it both ways - a BIG victory for Arizona's case:
"Plaintiffs will not be permitted to argue that they were forced to drive or work illegally and that they are irreparably harmed by the inability to work or drive illegally," the judge wrote. He said if information on how they were able to drive and get to work is off-limits to the governor, then the plaintiffs themselves cannot use it for their own legal purposes.So once again - as with S.B. 1070 - Arizona took the lead in opposing Obama's lawless amnesty moves for illegals, is blasted by the media for doing so and strong-armed at every turn by the Feds. But Arizona and its Governor will NOT back down when it comes to enforcing the rule of law against illegal aliens.

It’s sad but it looks like the GOP needs a woman to stand up for them.

And the next step should be to stop Honoring Any Special Drivers License issued By Any other State.

So Mr. Big Heart Rick Perry lets them get drivers licenses in Texas? I didn’t know that. No wonder everyone is talking about Texas turning blue in the near future. Illegal voting will do the trick and then we will look like California. Thanks Rick.
The first thing that needs to be done ASAP is to repeal, abolish and otherwise s_ _ tcan the damned Federal Hospital Emergency Law.
The next thing is to fine employers of Illegal aliens $ 1,000 per day per illegal worker.
Texas alone has 1,200 miles of the 2,000 mile US-Mexican Border, so “Fixing the Border” is just politician-speak for “ We aren’t going to do a damned thing to stop your financial loss. Oh, and BTW be sure and vote for ME.”
The feds don’t issue driver licenses, only states. What makes the feds think they have a say in this. This really should be a no-brainer, but just shows how low we have gone concerning states rights.

Yes, there are few who are bigger supporters of the illegals than Perry, and yes, we will be turning blue with in a decade thinks to the greed of those in Austin and the so-called business community. Good luck trying to ever get a conservative elected president after that (not that we are having such great luck with that even now).
OK, let’s see...a driver’s license is a LEGAL document, and we would issue a LEGAL document to an ILLEGAL immigrant because...?

I can understand Obama’s special sympathy for those brought to the US illegally before they were 16, but that does not excuse a criminal order to ignore the law.
This issue, as much as any other, shows how these illegals are needed here not as workers (especially when real unemployment is probably 15%), but as consumers. Dying states need them to fill supermarkets, classrooms, etc.; otherwise we’d have ghost towns along the lines of those of the gold rush. When there is nothing left, everyone picks up and leaves. It is happening here in NJ (Gov. Christie’s Dem predecessor admitted as much years ago, and we lost an electoral vote to underscore the point), and now they let anyone in without immigration enforcement just to keep schoolteachers and cops occupied (and drawing pay). The problem is that they are on the dole immediately, so they remaining taxpayers get slammed.
In the past a NJ family, in an environment that hearkens back to the Quartering Act of colonial times (in which colonists had to house British troops), had to provide for one public servant (cop, teacher, firemen) and one urban welfare recipient. Now they have to pay those costs, and on top of it “host” one illegal alien (and any resulting anchor babies). This speeds up the flight of employers and taxpayers, leaving those foolish enough to own a house to watch our wealth get redistributed. This is one huge reason housing won’t recover here; Americans who feel they can’t afford children don’t buy homes, and those that could know they could have a salsa-blaring gypsy camp set up in the foreclosed home next door (and nobody will do anything about it).
