Barack Obama speaks at 9 p.m. EST. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) gives the GOP response after Obama speaks. Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) gives the Tea Party Express response around 10 p.m.

Delivery is important. I would have shown Rubio walking up to a podium while supporters are clapping and/or cheering. No matter how one might feel about the speaker, the best delivery I ever saw for a response was Kristie Whitman responding to Clinton from the NJ state assembly.

I listened. If there was anything in that speech beyond praising economic opportunity I missed it.
A sympathetic figure, being a bit nervous and probably dry from sitting for hours listening to BS from the president. I think he didn’t miss a beat on delivering his message. Better yet, many people listening and watching would probably have respect for the fact that he went for the water, f’em! He has passion and we’ve been missing passion.

any response to a President in front of Congress won’t come off well. I don’t even see why the other party bothers. The Republicans should just say “look, everyone knows we disagree with the President. Tonight was his night. We’ll see you guys later.”
Yes, it strikes me as anti-assimilation, anti-melting pot.
Not to mention, it comes across as pretty much as a wink-of-the-eye to the GOP’s joining with the Dems in completely ignoring the rule of law, and allowing the whole insane open-border policy of the past two decades.
My uncle never had the slightest bit of racism in him, but when telephone recordings started that “press one for Spanish” and when street signs in Spanish started popping up, he just exploded in fury. It was like a visceral slap in the face to him, an attack on his lifelong views of what constitutes America. The whole melting pot thing. He’d be mad as hell at Rubio for doing this. Would never forgive him, never support him, just due to this.
