Do they give out discharge certificates from the reserves or just the 214? I’m not sure how the reserve side works. I have a buddy who just stopped going to drill. I don’t think he got anything.

You get the DD 214 when you are released from Active Duty. This could be for any length of active service. The Discharge certificate comes when you fulfill your entire Military Service Obligation (MSO) which is at least 8 years. This can include inactive status (ie when you are not on active duty and you are not drilling - called "Inactive Ready Reserve (IRR)").

For example, if you sign a contract in 2013 it will be for at least 8 years. You might do active duty from 2013 to 2017 and get a DD214 in 2017. You might then join the reserves for 2 years and attend drills. If you stop drilling, you will not receive a discharge certificate until 2021 (when your entire 8 year contract has been met).

I have a buddy who just stopped going to drill. I don’t think he got anything.

Your buddy will receive a discharge certificate from whatever agency is in charge of your reserve records (Navy was Naval Reserve Personnel Center, New Orleans) when he has completed his entire MSO or full length of his signed contract (active + drilling + inactive).

I've been out for 15 years so I'm a bit rusty, but that is pretty much the gist of it.

“...but I doubt Suffolk County PD would hand off the the apprehension role to the NYPD.”

Maybe the cops on the East Coast would have “apprehended” this guy, but I don’t think these cops anticipated using their handcuffs.

Drudge has a report that the final assault using tear gas and vehicles was carried out by the LAPD SWAT. Why was LAPD given that role. San Bernadino and CHP have SWAT.

Maybe the locals wanted him alive. LAPD learned well from the FBI/Waco gameplan.

Actually go back and see the LAPD versus the Symbionese Liberation Army. The Feebs actually tracked them down but LAPD SWAT showed up and took control of the scene as crimes had been committed in LA. The rest was the aroma of flames and burning flesh.
