In one of the starkest examples yet of Canadas allure for Irish job-seekers, last week the Canadian embassy in Dublin saw its yearly quota of 6,350 working holiday visas snapped up in only two and a half days.
Its staggering; we all knew that the demand was going to be very high this year, but I dont think anybody anticipated this, said Cathy Murphy, executive director of the Toronto-based Irish Canadian Immigration Centre.
She called the surge in demand a sign of the desperation of young people to get out.
Last year, by contrast, it took Canadas Irish embassy five months to hand out only 5,350 visas.
The visas are offered as part of International Experience Canada (IEC), a program that was originally designed to appeal to under-35 backpackers looking to make their working holiday dream a reality!

Looks like the Celtic Tiger is a pussycat.
Canada Ping!
I’m looking for a country with a conservative government on track to balance the federal budget. Also with a stable currency, stable banking system, using the system of English common law, 3 trillion barrels of oil deposits, good public education system, no signs of anarchy, able to feed itself, with a fairly prosperous economy and no risk of war with its immediate neighbors. Do you know of such a country? Oh, wait...
It’s another “AN GORTA MÓR” (the Great Hunger)for Ireland
However , instead of the young population dying of starvation and malnutition
They are comming to Canada for employment and opportunity
and a better lifestyle.
Here in this country we were promised ‘hope’ and ‘change’
and instead we got ‘beans and franks’ !
And now we go into a second term of ‘hope’ and ‘change’
and all we get are ... promises
Both Canada and the USA had a HUGE influx of Irish refugees during the famine; in Canada most of them ended up in Toronto and Montréal.
These Irish immigrants will fit in right across Canada - they’ll sound like Newfies with an education!
Irish Ping
It wasn’t too long ago the Globalists were cheerleading Ireland as some economic wunderkind.....but, alas, they were in the EU....and pffftt went the Eire economy.
With ways things are going with Amnesty Liberals in both parties...Canada may need some of those working holidays for Yanks
Ireland ping!
I wonder how many of those are Irish travelers trying to move to Canada and settle there permanently, wish the Irish the best of luck if they work in Canada.
Place has way too much ethnic and social tension to be healthy, especially if they are going to work in the East.
Also I wonder how many Americans applied and how many of them got accepted.
