Caught on camera: President Obama's State of the Union address definitely had some dramatic moments — when he talked about the victims of gun violence, for example. But during the 6,400-word-long speech, there were times when some notable audience members had trouble paying attention.

Is it required that congressmen to be at the SOTU? If not, you’d never catch me there with that bore.

No. But one cabinet member, "the designated survivor," is required to stay home, so that if something horrible happens, there will be someone in the chain of succession still alive and ready to take over the presidency.

If not, you’d never catch me there with that bore.

I guess it's a chance to meet your fellow Congressmen who you may have trouble seeing during ordinary working hours.

But it gets so crowded that there won't be many objections if a congressman stays home.

If they had any guts, they wouldn’t go. The resident in chief deserves no respect considering the lack of it he shows to others. He deserves none anyway because he never fails to show his contempt for America as the Founders envisioned it. I don’t know why they would be so scared to just not show up, if it were me, it would be the easiest thing in the world to just not be there. It would be most effective if they stayed away en masse. But I don’t expect them to have the guts. They just refuse to accept, admit, or something, that this man is not the normal opposition leader whom you can respect while you disagree with him. How can they respect the man who’s destroying this country? Well it’s not like they fight him very hard, so I suppose staying away from the schmoozing session after the SOTU address would be too great a sacrifice for them /s
