Though the article said that Iceland has already outlawed most pornography, there wasn't even a hint of how they defined pornography. Strange that, since they apparently have a openly lesbian Prime Minister Johanna Sigurdardottir which is a Social-Democrtatic-Alliance-Left-Green type feminist.

Formerly married (to a man!) Had two sons. Now married (to corrupt the term) with a woman. Oh, I don't know.

The vast majority of obscenity laws were passed in the 30's along with a huge amounts of other supra-constitutional legislation. While many applaud the out of control legislative actions that ushered in the "new deal" we are now reaping what was sown with a government no longer meaningfully restrained by the constitution that has grown to massive levels..

I share your concerns concerning pornography but I think efforts would be better focused on educating people to the dangers rather than torturing our poor Constitution even further.

They do a pretty good job of filtering it in the Middle East. All wired internet is run thru the government. They block everything. We had to use satellite internet.

Antoninus, great answer. I will ping this thread out. Been too busy to ping much.

Thanks to the commie ACLU and Larry Flynt, the First Amendment which never was meant to protect obscenity, now protects strip joints, women in high heels stomping on kittens on youtube, and movies of fags sodomizing each other.

Thanks, ACLU and porn producers!

Mrs. don-o is absolutely correct. And keep in mind that pornography is considered to be protected under the First Amendment thanks to the commie ACLU, porn producers, and a leftist dominated SCOTUS. The men who wrote and signed the Constitution never condisered that Amendment to cover films of homosexuals sodomizing each other, women in high heels stomping on kittens, or strippers. Or any other form of obsecentity or pornography.

I am glad we have a 1st Amendment to protect us against this silliness.

I seriously doubt the Founding Fathers thought that protecting porn was the intent of the First Amendment, that the intent of the First Amendment was a license for debauchery.

But all the spoiled brat liberaltarians who don't want anyone infringing on their *right* to do whatever they please without any consideration of what effect their actions have on others will of course be condemning it.

Actually, you've got it backwards. We had laws against pornography for 180 years until some idiot judges decided that the First Amendment covered things like gay sex videos. Sorry, but once a noble idea like the First Amendment is expanded to protecting disgusting obscenity, it ceases to have any meaning.

THANK YOU!!!!

Seriously. There has always been a faction on FR that think Larry Flynt was one of the Founding Fathers. It's long past time for them to wise up and realize that they've been played. Addiction to sexual vice = slavery.

The same liberatarians who defend porn, defend abortion, and promote homosexual marriage. It wouldn't surprise me in the least to find them opposed to laws against murder and theft. After all, isn't that the government telling us what we can and cannot do? Isn't that an infringement on our right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness? By current livertarians reasoning, the answer to both those questions is *yes*.

Government is a necessary evil but what libertarians are promoting these days will just result in anarchy.

Porn was illegal in this country during its greatest years and nobody then thought it was a violation of the First Amendment. That argument only came after the breakdown in morals that happened in this country.

The First Amendment wasn't instituted to give people a license to do whatever popped into their heads to do.

You are a damned liar.

Iceland is broke. And cold. Instead of grabbing at an opportunity they kill it. Imagine an ice skating show “Porn on Ice”. Or literary themed Porn Under the Volcano.

Men look at porn occasionally, it rarely ruins their lives but you make it sound like the worst thing on earth!

Statistics and men who have been freed from the bondage and addition of porn tell a different story.

Porn is not harmless. Porn is an addition. It's bondage and slavery. Mrs.

Don-o is right.

The official LP platform is for no holds barred porn, every homo-agenda position including adoption and fostering children, no restraints whatsoever on abortion, legal prostitution, and no drug so vile and dangerous that it should be illegal. And of course absolutely open borders - even getting rid of the Border Patrol.

Libertarianism is merely the ultra kook anarchy fringe of the far left.

They cannot reason. And funny thing is all the ones on FR claim they don’t use drugs but I don’t believe it. No one can be that stupid and not be a user....

Porn is an addition

We all love additions! Don't you salt and pepper your food? Pour catsup on your hot dogs, mustard on your dognuts?

Libertarians want no restrictions on their behavior.

What with what they’re promoting, I’m surprised that they aren’t objecting to murder and theft being crimes. After all, freedom of expression and all.

They don’t want limited government, they want to hogtie it into total ineffectiveness. They’ve drank the commie kool-aid like Mrs. Don-o posted in post 44 when she said....

” And are you not familiar with Communist aims for breaking down society, or do you think that’s some sort of Conservative canard?

18. Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them “censorship” and a violation of free speech and free press.

19. Break down culture standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio, and T.V.

20. Present homosexuality, degeneracy, and promiscuity, as “normal, natural, healthy.”

I would be a tad more satisfied with the Free Republic if it would make a clean break with the ACLU. “

The company libertarians are keeping is enough to convince me their position is wrong, along with their *interpretation* of the First Amendment.
