Bump. Afghanistan is surrounded by Pakistan, Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and China. Pakistan was the only logical entry point into Afghanistan. Our mistake was trying to occupy and rebuild which locked us into a long term logistical and diplomatic need for countries that will glad take our money and weapons but really don't like us. Russia made a boatload of cash letting us transport supplies from the north.
