A school principal said no white children were allowed at an after-school tutoring program, and now some parents call it discrimination.
The principal at Mission Viejo Elementary in Aurora sent a letter telling parents the program is only for students of color. Parents CBS4 talked with said they were shocked to see, in this day and age, what they consider to be segregation.
I was infuriated. I didnt understand why they would include or exclude certain groups, said parent Nicole Cox, who is white.
Coxs 10-year-old daughter needs tutoring. After receiving the notice, other parents complained to the schools principal, Andre Pearson.
We have come so far in all of these years to show everybody that everyone is equal, that everyone should be treated equally this is a form of bullying, Cox said.
Before Cox could complain to the school, Pearson contacted her directly. His voicemail only seemed to reinforce the segregated tutoring idea.
This is Andre Pearson. Its focused for and designed for children of color, but certainly, if we have space for other kids who have needs, we can definitely meet those needs, Pearson told Cox in the voicemail.
Pearson declined to comment on camera, but a district spokesperson claims it was all just a big misunderstanding.
I think what the answer is, is that he made a mistake, Tustin Amole with the Cherry Creek School District told CBS4.
The new tutoring program was started by parents of minority students to help bridge the achievement gap.
The district is now clarifying that the program wasnt meant to segregate anyone.
But we have had lots of students sign up for the tutoring. Many of them are white and we will be accepting all of them, Amole said.
I just want everybody to be treated equally, Cox said.
The new tutoring program began Wednesday. CBS4 was told a letter would be going out to parents to clarify the error that was made.
I didn't realize how bad the underlying animosity was until around late Nov 2008...
Just wait until white Obama supporters find out that only black and hispanic kids will be getting college loans from now on, courtesy of Santa Barry.
This is just the beginning of the left’s reverse discrimination program for a “new Amerika”.
“...and now some parents call it discrimination.”
What else could you call possibly call it?
The Left is doing everything it can to stir up racial strife, and is especially trying to provoke white people into hating minorities. Let’s not rise to their evil bait.
Another perspective - Sounds like the regular teacher(s) are failing miserably in the classroom, heck even whitey isn’t getting it.
“I always heard it the other way around”
Think, what color do you see when you turn off the light in a closed room? I can assure you it is not white.
What is color, again? A property picked up by receptors in our eyes based on the absorbtion and reflection of light of various wavelengths by objects. If you see black when there is no light, then black is the absence of color. Not that everything we call “black,” for instance people, fit this description. Then again, there are no purely white people. That’s just how we talk.
“I guess white is not considered a color anymore.”
Not to mention that the racist skank is semi-literate.
In English, one focuses *on,* not *for.*
I don’t think they’re provoking white people as much as it is that the generationally engrained racist animosity towards white people is bubbling to the surface, and more whiteys are opening their eyes.
I wonder if they’re going to use the “brown paper bag” test to let kids into the tutoring program.
We been screwed again. Thank you Master Obama, may I have another?
I used to converse with a liberal columnist about the revenge policies we've been seeing (getting even with whitey), and she was all for it (she was a case of white guilt, BTW). Said it would be good for innocent white children to get a taste of what the minorities have been putting up with for years. She never could get my point that the gettinevenism is only causing more long-term strife between people.
She thought that was fine as long as "the playing field" ends up tilted away from whites. There was no pretext of "a level playing field," no it needs to be tilted to make up for generations of "white privilege."
They say it was a "misunderstanding" (thus shifting the blame for the brouhaha on the parents), but this school would have kept the white kids locked out if there hadn't been such a stink raised over it. What the bloody Hell is with Aurora, anyway? It seemed a fairly decent place once.
It's Colorado, but the good advice still applies.
It’s always a “misunderstanding” when they’re caught.
They can try to tilt it all they want,
but more viable and successful cultural values will always triumph.
Kids from families that follow Western Cultural traditions will always, overall, come out ahead.
THAT is what they see as “white privilege”. It’s actually just “natural consequences”.
Nothings says black kids are stupid and white kids are smarter like saying a tutoring program only caters to black kids.
“...if we have space for other kids who have needs...”
I see a lawsuit coming.
the racism from some people of color is beyond scary. It is downright back into the days of deed restrictions and jim crow.
Racism is racism.
there is no reverse.
the lessons of equality were lost on this principle.
“Misunderstanding:” It’s just another way of sloughing blame off onto the victim. I had a kid in school once, and whenever I had a bureaucrat say something was a “misunderstanding,” I called them on it. I usually asked them if one of their “professional educators” wrote whatever it was I was “misunderstanding.”
IF WE HAVE SPACE..
well that was a backhanded slap.
’I think what the answer is, is that he made a mistake,’ Tustin Amole with the Cherry Creek School District told CBS4.”
No, he didn’t make a mistake. The Cherry Creek School District did by hiring someone with that politically correct minorities-as-victims mentality as a principal. (tho in the climate of today’s educational bureaucracies, it’s hard to find anyone who doesn’t think like that)
