CARACAS—The Venezuelan government Friday released the first images of ailing President Hugo Chávez since his departure more than two months ago to Cuba to resume his battle with cancer.

The photos show the smiling president in a blue and white track suit, lying down and flanked by two of his daughters. In one image, he is holding a copy of the Cuba state newspaper Granma, which Venezuelan officials said was the Feb. 14 edition of the publication, apparently to prove that the photos were taken recently. The 58-year-old leader, who announced his battle with cancer in June 2011, appeared to have his full head of hair and a heavy girth.

""proof of life" photos"??

Well it is proof of someone's life, but is it really Chavez.

He looks too healthy.

I am not yet convinced that he is alive. Like other dictators who have body doubles, Chavez may be a room temp. We would not like to upset Commie control of countries. /sarcasm

Guess we shall see.

Yes, Hugo may be face to face with the Father-of-Lies.

If he is, I almost pity him. But he chose his path. He chose unwisely.

Hugo's not evil--just very misguided as I see it.

I don’t understand why Baraq hasn’t brought his buddy to the US for some real doctoring. I know liberals tell us that Cuba has awesome medical care but you know the rich ones don’t believe that for a second.

Yes, that would be expected. Professional courtesy, one Commie to another Commie.

Nothing’s for certain in this deal, but it would be incredibly difficult to keep out of the news.
A seriously ill Chavez would encounter many, many people in the course of a hospital stay. Can’t see it happening.

No, they don't. When my mother was in Houston,at MD Anderson, for cancer treatment, the entrance I used most was the one the cabs used. The limos used that entrance too.

The Spanish Consulate had their limousines there everyday, dropping off and picking up patients and family members. They didn't look like Mexicans.....they looked like the Spainerds of Europe. They weren't putting their fate in Castro's hands.

You ask why does anyone give a ‘hoot’ about Chavez? Mostly because of the influence he has or did have in that part of the world not so distant from Florida. Chavez was a well known hater of what used to be without question, our forms of American Democracy, and Capitalism with a healthy dose of Chauvinism or pride of country.

Chavez, like most socialists, wants the government to own and run everything, and end justifies means to produce that lifestyle. Chavez, like our current president relies on blind party alligience and a cult of personality to stay in charge. Chavez has been conspicously PALL-ING AROUND with Iran’s president, who wants to bring a touch of sharia in culture or in finance closer and closer to the American border.

Iran and China are rapidly expanding their influence in that part of the hemisphere, Brazil included, while our U.S. political big WHIGS, act as though nothing has changed in the last fourty years, and those ‘greasy, grimey third world meglomaniac Banana Republics are still paralyzed with fear at the idea of ‘displeasing’ the most mighty Uncle Sam’ in all his presumed omnipotence.
