VP lobbies as Colo. approves gun-control measures (Biden on CO Ski Trip)

DENVER (AP) -- A package of gun control measures won initial approval in Colorado's Democratic-controlled House Friday night, with Vice President Joe Biden personally phoning four lawmakers from his ski vacation in the state to speed along the emotional debate.

Biden phoned three freshmen legislators along with Democratic House Speaker Mark Ferrandino. The calls came amid a long debate over the proposals, including expanded background checks and ammunition limits - responses to mass shootings, including the killings at a Colorado movie theater.

In all, the House gave the initial OK to four bills after a daylong debate. The preliminary votes set up final actions on the measures Monday.

The Democratic gun-control package that advanced also includes banning concealed weapons on public college campuses, and requiring that gun buyers pay for their background checks.

One of the freshmen Biden called, Democratic Rep. Tony Exum, hails from conservative Colorado Springs and said he had no idea who would be on the line when a "restricted" number rang his cellphone during afternoon debate.

"He said, `This is Vice President Joe Biden.' I said, `No way!'" Exum recalled with a chuckle after the call.

Exum said that Biden repeatedly called him "chief," a reference to Exum's former service as a fire chief. Exum said Friday night that his mind was already made up to support the gun-control measures, but Biden asked about the package's prospects. Exum said prospects were good and that he was happy to hear from the vice president on Colorado's gun debate.

Biden also talked to Democratic Rep. Mike McLachlan, whose southwest Colorado district includes more Republicans than Democrats.

The vice president also called Democratic Rep. Dominick Moreno, a lawmaker from suburban Denver.

O is trying to get his gun control initiative passed in areas where there is less resistance. He’s probably hoping the infection will spread like a plague moving from one soft skull to the next. That’s how the Rat works; incrementalism...

The votes were preliminary and unrecorded, but they were the first chance for many lawmakers to debate gun control after mass shootings last year in Aurora, Colo., and Newtown, Conn.

The Won and his enablers will try to buy this with payoffs for the Commie Dem POLs. Now, Colorado Springs and much of the state except for Metro Pockets are pro gun. Forget Boulder. There are a lot of retired military in Colorado Springs. Lots of hunters on the Western Slope. Some pockets of misplaced old hippies on the Western Slope also.

I hope these Dems keep this up. It boggles my mind how they think they’re going to get a pass on this. They won’t know what hit em in the mid terms. I know two people at my work that are a-political and registering to vote in the next election, just on the gun issue.

I was living in Denver back when Colorado was still rugged individuals. Denver was loony libs. I watched it shift in a short time span. I guess even the Springs is Californicated. Colorado is a good place to leave. Conservatives need to consolidate.

“Colorado is a good place to leave. “

Why? This entire country is about to explode and when it does the liberals here and everywhere will do some of the ddumbest things. I will remain here and take back our State.

“belong in Texas anyway”

Nah. Your Austin capitol is run by libs from Boston.

MagPul belongs in Wyoming if they must leave Colorado.

It has already worked here in NM. HB 77 passed the NM house a few days ago with the help of 8 republicans. It is a bill aimed at closing the so called “gun show loophole” and has nebulous wording on increased mental health checks including prescription drugs and alcohol. Who decides the mental health of a potential gun buyer has yet to be determined. It also establishes that the dept of public safety will be charged with gathering all this info and is unclear as to how long they keep such info. Incrementalism: squishy RINOs fall for it every time. Friggin pansy a$$ed pukes!!!

Republicans that have ‘a full set’ need to amend any/every gun-control bill to require loss of voting rights be tied to loss of gun rights.

Can't be trusted to own a gun? Sorry Skippy, you can't vote.

The liberals would lose their love for gun-control instantly!

What no one is mentioning is that the place was PACKED with people opposing gun control. Yet the dems passed it anyway.
There is NO representation here.
We need to kick them ALL out.
