NRA chief David Keene, a gentleman who sticks to his guns

Fairfax, Va. - For the leader of what may be the most polarizing interest group in America, National Rifle Association chief David Keene is a genial hard-liner.

He loves guns. He loves politics. He loves talking - even with journalists, who are viewed in gun circles as overwhelmingly hostile to their cause.

The son of pro-labor Wisconsin Democrats, Keene grew into one of Washington, D.C.'s ultimate conservative insiders, a Goldwater-Nixon-Agnew-Reagan-Dole Republican, a lobbyist, strategist and lifelong political player.

He enjoys the fray, and now he's in a big one.

Keene jokes about getting death threats from people who can't shoot, saying, "If your opponents are crazy, that means my mildly insane views will be taken as more normal."

After the Newtown, Conn., shooting, the 67-year-old grandfather of six got a letter accusing him of having done "everything within your power to make it possible for someone to kill 20 elementary school children," inviting him to acknowledge "the cosmic scale of the grief that you and your co-workers have caused," and promising to throw a party when the National Rifle Association goes bankrupt.

I got to spend an afternoon with Mr. Keene while helping with the Bobby Schilling campaign and came away very impresses. He is a true gentleman and very personable. Also a great storyteller.

The guy was born in 1946 don’t know what he was doing during Goldwater’s time but if he was “campaigning” for Goldwater with his dad being a big dem. That didn’t make for a good father/son relationship.

Oh. The guy who took CPAC gay.

Reminds me of the story of the old women extolling the "Christian" virtue of temperance.

But when reminded that Christs' first miracle was to turn water into wine, she responded: "Ya - that's one thing I don't like about Jesus..."

I don’t care if he’s charming or not. It’s not the issue. I want people who will protect the rights I care about. The ones that make my country worth dying for...

Charm - being a ‘gentleman’ doesn’t matter. I don’t care if he’s more acceptable to liberals... I care about freedom for my children and grandchildren.

‘Freedom’ is NOT voting. It’s NOT purple fingers. It never was.

People in the creepiest hellholes in the world ‘get to vote’. Their elites - like ours - need to have their fat egos fed. What better way than the vote? Saddam Hussein claimed 98% of the vote. The creepy fat one in North Korea wanted the vote - it allowed the shit to think he was loved. Same with thugs in Iran. Elite liberals here want a forced vote.

It’s not ‘this elite’ or ‘that elite’...or this ‘oh so gracious person’ or that... who cares?

The only thing we ( we the people) want from the puffed up ‘used car salesmen types’ in Washington DC is for them to protect the freedoms that matter to us: the freedoms granted by our Constitution. Freedoms that protect our rights as citizens. OUR freedom is based on the Constitution and the BILL OF RIGHTS. That’s what ‘we the citizens’ are willing to die for.. Willingly.

That freeodom is the reason people of the world want to escape to our country. So THEY can be free from their puffed-up - lowlife - elites. The protection of citizen’s rights.

Would I be willing to die to defend a bunch of elites? NO. I wouldn’t be willing to get a bad cold to defend a bunch of elites. I wouldn’t be willing to cross a street to defend a John Kerry. I wouldn’t spend a nickel to defend a bunch of puffed-up liberal elites - OR ANY elites for that matter.

It's not about the feeding their own egos as much as it is about them feeding the egos of the populace. It gives the serfs the illusion of self determination.
