Funds run low for health insurance in state ‘high-risk pools’
Washington Post ^ | 15 February 2013 | N.C. Aizenman

Tens of thousands of Americans who cannot get health insurance because of preexisting medical problems will be blocked from a program designed to help them because funding is running low.

Obama administration officials said Friday that the state-based “high-risk pools” set up under the 2010 health-care law will be closed to new applicants as soon as Saturday and no later than March 2, depending on the state.

The program, which was launched in summer 2010, was always intended as a temporary bridge for the uninsured. But it was supposed to last until 2014. At that point, the health-care law will bar insurers from rejecting or otherwise discriminating against people who are already sick, enabling such people to buy plans through the private market.

From the start, analysts questioned whether the $5 billion that Congress appropriated for the Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan — as the program is called — was sufficient.

Initial fears that as many as 375,000 sick people would swamp the pools and bankrupt them by 2012 did not pan out. This is largely because, even though the pools must charge premiums comparable to those for healthy people, the plans sold through them are often expensive.

But it was also because the pools are open only to people who have gone without insurance for at least six months. The result is that, while only about 135,000 people have gotten coverage at some point, they are proving far more costly to insure than predicted.

All by design to crash the system.

Yes, rather early though

At that point, if everything goes according to Obama's plan, there will be no private health insurance market. It will have been regulated out of existence and the government will control it all.

Do you know where I can get of copy of the application? This is huge news. The Administration and the Dems in Congress have said that the illegals would not be covered. I have some contacts in Congress that I can provide this information to.

Anybody got a spare kidney? VA and Medicare have pazsed on this 71 year old, too. No one will sell insurance to me, either.

...analysts questioned whether the $5 billion that Congress appropriated for the Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan...

Notice that the article says the program started in 2010, but fails to mention who was running Congress at the time (the Dems and Nancy Pelosi), leaving the sheeple and low-info voters to assume it's the same people running Congress now (the Repubs) so they will get the "blame".

Typical Dem strategy: low-ball the cost to get it up and running, then come running back for more money when it costs more than "expected" ("We can't stop now!").

Don’t laugh too hard. Phase two of their operation is to blame this shortfall on republicans, the one percent, and caucasions. Sadly it will likely work.

Thanks. Here is a recent paper on Obamacare and Immigration.

I know the author who has a Phd and has studied this issue along with immigration for a long time. I have been working on immigration for six years and lobby on the Hill. If these applications welcome illegal aliens to apply, this will be very big news. Great pick up. I look forward to getting a copy or at least finding a source that I can download it from.

400 million firearms and trillions of rounds of ammunition tell me it won’t end there.

The whole system headed for the dumper back when two things happened;
1. The insured was taken out of the loop and the “medical professionals” started getting paid directly (beginning an unholy alliance to steal)
2. The insrance companies began using computers to slice and dice people into smaller and smaller risk pools (making it possible to weed out the unhealthy)

You are correct. It was never about Government Insurance - it is about Government Health Care.

At least in Oregon, being an illegal alien will disqualify one from the federal pool, but not from the state pool.

I have gone thru the form and not found anything that says that someone who is not lawfully here is entitled to OMIP.

Have you been uninsured for the past six months and are you a U.S. citizen or non-citizen U.S. national, or a non-citizen who is lawfully present in the U.S.?

Am I missing something?
