Body Found Inside Water Tank Atop Hotel Identified As Missing Canadian Tourist

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A Canadian tourist Tuesday was found dead in a water tank on top of a downtown Los Angeles hotel.

Elisa Lam, 21, had last been seen at the hotel on Jan. 26.

Police and firefighters were summoned to the Cecil Hotel at 640 South Main St. shortly after 10 a.m., according to LAPD Officer Bruce Borihanh.

KNX 1070′s Claudia Peschiutta reports guests were disturbed to learn Lam’s nude body was found inside of one of four large water tanks.

A maintenance worker discovered the body after he received reports from hotel guests of low water pressure in the building and went up to the roof to investigate the cause.

Peschiutta reported a man who lives in the building said tenants were warned earlier in the day to avoid using the water.

One guest, however, said despite checking in Monday night, she only heard about the water tank once the investigation began.

“I wanted to check out right away,” the unidentified female said, adding that while she had not used the shower, she had been using water to drink, wash her hands, and brush her teeth. “I’m going to stay in the Westin [Hotel].”

The fire department said health officials tested the water and found no hazardous materials.

>>>This story really makes me sick. Everyone is making jokes about the water and there is this poor young lady most likely murdered.

I could not agree more. It's pretty sad that FR is a site that at times can be as disgusting and Godless than the DUmp.

Oh come on. You didnt seem to be bothered when it was journalists in the tank for Obama, now, did you?

RIP Elisa Lam

Doesn't look like a place to skinny dip.
Looks like a place for a sicko to dump a rape/murder victim.

I’m trying to understand a technical issue with this story because something seems a bit weird beyond the finding of a body in a water tank. I’ve worked in a wide range of commercial office buildings and number of large hotels and on many occasions, had to go on to the roof of many of them to do some work on cooling towers or other components of HVAC systems. Admittedly, I don’t work on the water systems and none of my experiences involved Los Angeles. However, I don’t ever remember being on a roof that had an accessible tank that was used for potable water… never. For one thing, uncontrolled pollutants and insects could access it, in cold climes it would freeze and in warm climes it would get warm. There would be huge risks of legionnaire’s disease and moulds forming depending on the temperature etc etc. Yes, there needs to be a means of regulating building water pressures and flows…. But do they really do this for potable water through the use of tanks that are accessible? I would have thought that a sealed tank would have been used, no? If a Freeper here has some experience in this area, I would greatly appreciate being enlightened……

I saw clips this morning on the news of this young woman nervously hitting every button on the elevator on the day she went missing. She would stop on every floor, look nervously outside, then continue on. She was hiding from someone. She was very much afraid. Freepers, this is not a joking matter.

Wow. I have no idea what you are talking about...and no idea how the LSM and people making fun of a dead girl are alike. Of course, I guess you do not understand that I hold "US" to a higher standard than those who dwell on the other side. I expect crass and tasteless humor from them...but somehow think we should be different. Guess not. Funny thing is...I see DUmpters making fun of dead conservatives (like FR do dead libs)...but I don't see them making fun of dead young ladies whose politics are unknown. And yet...we are somehow better than them? In truth, yes, in beliefs, yes...but somehow not in character or honor.

Thank you. I expected FR to be better than this.

I have been a member a long time; even longer under another name but for some reason, the jokes about this young lady really bothered me.

I am glad there are people like you here and for that reason, I will continue to do so.

There is no way this young woman would jump nude into a water tank on top of a seedy hotel.

She was murdered and should be treated as a murder victim. Not the butt of "tasteless" jokes.
