On Thursday, NFL quarterback Tim Tebow canceled his appearance to speak at First Baptist Church of Dallas next month after Tebow came under pressure from the sports media to do so.

A lot of brave people here. It’s just that you’re hiding behind an anonymous name on a website. I wonder how tough you’d all be in his position...
I would hope in my case, I wouldn’t be a compromiser.
Joan of ark. john the baptist. schindler. harriet tubman. rosa parks. all with backbones. If you dont stand for something you will fall for anything.
greatly disappointed in teebow. He falls into my joel osteen camp.
Aren’t most Baptists anti-Catholic/?? Virulently so?? All that I know sure are....they don;t consider us CHRISTIANS even though ALL of the Bible shows we are the ORIGINALS!! Go figure.
We would all hope that. I don’t think his situation is so simple though. My beef is with the “tough guys” here that run their mouths about what they would do. It’s easy to say when you don’t have to do it.(not you personally)
Are you really comparing Tebow and his decision to those people and their decisions?
I live almost next door to a large Baptist congregation. They used to be that way, but over the last decade, and with a transition in leadership, have become far more ecumenical.
I think it’s because they realize we’re all in trouble from this federal govt. It’s a congregation with a lot of political activity.
I've been going to a Baptist church for about 12 years now. I've observed much Catholic-bashing there. I'd say 75% of it is from former Catholics-turned-Baptist (there are a lot for some reason) and the other 25% from life-long Baptists doing the "Yeah - what he said!" thing with no actual experience in a Catholic church or any real knowledge of their traditions.
I have no explanation for why that was but I forbid Catholic bashing in the Sunday school class I teach and anyone who has tried it got a quick history lesson. I've also told them that there will be plenty of Catholics in Heaven as surely as there will be plenty of Baptists in Hell. That kind of freaks them out.
maybe it's that attitude which turns them off? sometimes "anti-Catholic" is mistranslated as "not thrilled with some Catholics' attitude".
I see where you are coming from and I agree that some Baptist churches are steeped in legalism; however for people to assume an ecumenical view is to join a world view which is not in keeping with the scripture.
Too many pastors and congregations are going along to get along. “Narrow is the gait” and often we must stand against the majority for our faith.
Jesus sets before each of us only two ways of life, and two ways only. He was not an ecumenical teacher.
Matthew 7:13-14 “The Narrow Way” 13)Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14)Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.
According to the liberal media, it always depends on what kind of anti-Catholic one is-

Define the term “Catholic bashing” please. I find a lot of times, it is used to describe anyone who disagrees with Roman Catholic teaching. As a Protestant(and you be being a Baptist would be in this group), we could be called “Catholic bashers” for believing in such things as Sola Scriptura, justification by faith alone, and rejecting the doctrines of papal infallibility, transubstantiation, viewing Mary as a co-redemptrix with Christ, etc.. However, I have no trouble being friends and neighbors with Roman Catholic individuals or with working with them on common cause issues like life and the natural family. I’ve also supported and voted for Roman Catholics who share my views on issues. So in those cases, I don’t think that term applies to myself and fellow Protestants who think and act like me in these areas.
Jeffress:
“I think part of the problem is we’re in this consumer mentality as a church where we have the idea that our job is to build as big of a church as we possible can. And if we get into that idea and fall into that trap, then we say then we can’t say anything that’s going to offend people, why, if we preach that homosexuality is an abomination to God we better not preach that because that’s going to offend the gays or people who know gay people, if we tell people what the Bible says that every other religion in the world is wrong: Islam is wrong, it is a heresy from the pit of Hell; Mormonism is wrong, it is a heresy from the pit of Hell; Judaism, you can’t be saved being a Jew, you know who said that by the way, the three greatest Jews in the New Testament, Peter, Paul, and Jesus Christ, they all said Judaism won’t do it, it’s faith in Jesus Christ.”

So...what is the problem?
The “problem” is that Jeffress believes the following:

http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2%20timothy%203:16-17&version=GNV
and preaches accordingly.
Can you cite the comments about Catholic and Jews? By the way, mormonism is indeed a cult.
Just use a search engine on Jeffress comments.
He’s got many, many statements on the internet.
It’s not something that is difficult to find.
wesagain made the comment, he can “look it up”.
I’m not a Baptist - only attending a Baptist church. And no one (life-Baptist or ex-Catholic) I’ve met there yet could even define any of the terms or discuss the topics you listed. No one in my class had ever heard of Sola Scriptura until I brought it up. Their “bashing” is very simplistic - Catholics are going to hell because they are Catholics. It’s not even based on any theological argument. From my perspective, as long as Jesus is Lord, the Bible is the Word of God, I can put up with most traditions. So I am comfortable with either Catholics or Protestants - but prefer ones who can at least explain their own doctrine.
Our brother Tim has committed an unforced butt fumble. Invite RGIII instead. He fears God.
