Complaints about noise in New Britain (CT) following storm(Nemo)

New Britain residents complained to city leaders that plows clearing snow throughout the night during Blizzard Charlotte kept them awake.

During the storm, plows, dump trucks and payloaders worked almost nonstop for days until the city was cleared of snow.

However, that noise did not sit well with residents, who heard it at 3 a.m. and 4 a.m.

"That's a little rough," said Al Pienkowski of New Britain.

A city council member said he's looking into the current noise ordinance after getting a complaint from a resident the Monday after Blizzard Charlotte hit.

She told the council member that for two nights in a row, she was kept awake by heavy duty equipment working to clear the parking lot of the nearby New Britain Museum of Art.

"I think most people understand its a 24-hour job to remove the snow," said New Britain mayor's spokesperson Phil Sherwood. "But, the woman who levied the complaint brings up an interesting point and excessive noise at 2 a.m. is a quality of life issue."

Well maybe, just maybe she might have a point about clearing snow from the art museum parking lot at 2am. Just saying - streets yes, but who's going to the art museum except employees of the city who most likely would have been declared non-essential and told to stay home.

If they didn’t clear the snow form the art museum quickly, I’m sure they world get complaints from the art crowd. Also they could of been clearing just enough to allow emergency access to said building. Who knows.

Maybe - but you’d have to admit... as for clearing an emergency exit I think it was the whole parking lot. Then too, I’m not too sure even those art lovers would show up. I mean, maybe it’s like “well we’ve seen that stuff before” or something ....

Think this through, SkyDancer. You're advocating adding yet another city employee [or maybe a department] be hired to determine which parts of the city may be plowed when. Sheesh. It's the Northeast and it snows.

The best and most economical time to plow is when there aren't any cars around. These whiners should put in some earplugs if they're that sensitive and go back to sleep.

I’m with you on that - I was just trying to view it from her point of view. Sure it snows there - but again, who’d be going out in that mess a few hours later to visit an art museum? Would those employed there be considered non-essential? Again, just saying.

Today in Topeka, Kansas people were begging and pleading for snow plows to come. The whole town is buried but you couldn’t find a snow plow even on the streets around hospitals.

I would expect the blue bloods on the east coast to be whiney but folks from Kansas? You all have just forgotten what it’s like to have a lot of snow. But thank God you all finally got some moisture, even if it was the white stuff.

Well, in this wussy society that we now have, this really isn’t a surprise. Anyone who complains should have 20 feet of snow piled on to their driveway and front entrance. Let them dig themselves out or until it thaws in spring.
