Add Bob Dole—former senator, former presidential candidate, grievously wounded in World War II—to the list of Republican heavy-hitters urging the Senate to confirm the embattled Chuck Hagel as defense secretary.

“Hagel’s wisdom and courage make him uniquely qualified to be Secretary of Defense and lead the men and women of our armed forces,” Dole said in a statement released by the White House. “Chuck Hagel will be an exceptional leader at an important time.”

Bob Dole does not put food on my table. He can endorse whomever he desires but tell me how relevant is Bob Dole’s voice. Does Bob Dole vote on Hagel? Bob Dole is relevant as barack Obama - both have little else to say but strive to blow air up my drawers.

Bob Dole, bless his soul, was just another of a long line of “sacrifice” GOP Presidential candidates going back to Alf Landon in 1936, and including Wendell Willkie in 1940, Thomas E. Dewey in 1944 and 1948, Barry Goldwater in 1964 (or was that 1864?), Gerald Ford in 1976, and the second Bush-41 run in 1992. The reason for his nomination in the first place was that was “his turn”, but there was no popular groundswell supporting his nomination OR election, it was just kind of default setting.

It is almost as if the Republican Establishment just doesn’t CARE if they win or lose. This is a gentlemen’s game, of no more lasting importance than a polo match.

Which is why it is so infuriating to those of us who really DO care. Because the leadership of this nation is NOT a polo match.

I Thought He Was Dead

Along those lines, Bob Dole will be dead 4 hours before anyone realizes it...

So who was the “non-sacrifice” Republican candidate who could have won in 1996?

“If you want to know why the Republican Party is in such bad shape, you don’t have to look much farther than these two.”

Yeah, but the list is much longer than them! I guess though, they are at the top because of their “IT’S MY TURN PRESIDENTIAL RUNS.” However, all that said, probably the most destructive two today are Boner and McConnell. If there were ever two more spineless bastards in government positions of power in the GOP, I don’t know who they would be. Smarmy and Meaching!

Now just hold it right there. This is Dole, as told by the White Hut? Can you say "puppet?" How far up Dole's butt is Obama's hand??

“Sounds like senility setting in, Bob.”

The old bastard is 89, long past time when he should be opening his pie hole for any reason other than eating. His bio says that he was a “leading Conservative.”

Horse crap! Bob Dole never saw a tax he didn’t like!

Former ex-Senator Bob Dole’s statement was not quoted in its entirety. It, as it has been an established time honored custom, started with the words: “Bob Dole thinks that...”, etc.
