Rand Paul returns unused money from office budget to the government

Would that our bureaucrats had this kind of attitude.

From CNN:

Sen. Rand Paul cut another six-figure check to the United States Treasury Wednesday, taking the money he said he didn't need from his office's budget to make a tiny dent in the nation's massive federal debt.

"We watch every purchase," Paul, a Republican from Kentucky, said at an event next to an oversized check for $600,000. "We watch what computers we buy, what paper we buy, the ink cartridges. We treat the money like it's our money, or your money, and we look at every expenditure."

The $600,000 reflects more than 20% of Paul's annual office budget, according to a press release. Another GOP lawmaker, Rep. Mick Mulvaney of South Carolina, said he would return $160,000 to the federal government, or 12% of his office budget.

"At a time when Americans are tightening their budgets, I have made an effort to do the same with my Congressional office budget," Mulvaney wrote in a statement. "'My office has found ways to save money while continuing to provide necessary services to the constituents of the Fifth District. As requested when I returned over $160,000 last year, I ask that Speaker Boehner use this money to pay down the national debt."

Last year Paul returned $500,000 to the Treasury, and said he hoped other members of Congress would follow his cost-cutting lead. In total, Paul's office says they've returned $1.1 million that was unspent from his office's operating budget.

Last week Paul delivered a tea party-sponsored response to President Barack Obama's State of the Union address. He also said on Sunday that he would decide next year on whether he'll run for president in 2016.

Right thing to do,

but if he thinks he’ll shame any ‘rat congresscritter into following suit,

he’s greatly mistaken.

Good for him.

IMHO Representatives and Senators shouldn’t such extravagant budgets to begin with.

Its a rare CEO that has the office budget of a U.S. Representative. I’d love to see a true itemization of how some of them spend that budget.

Liking Rand Paul more by the day.
Still holding my breath just a little wondering if he’ll go nutty like Ron.

RE: Rand Paul returns unused money to the government

And what’s the ‘government’ going to do with it?

RE: Obama is sending it to Hamas

Rand Paul might as well have kept it then.

These guys will be smart to figure out that the ONLY winning position will be to educate the voters to answer the question, “is it good for the country?”

That being said, good for him. A sacrificial position is easy for anyone attempting patriotism.

Alas, he could’ve hung onto a few bucks and used it for a good haircut.

This gives you some inkling of what the others are throwing away.

Just think of what we could save by grounding Obama and the Wookie.
If Air Force One and Wookie One were grounded we could save in the Billions.

You know, geeze. OK, this is from WIKI:

The president earns a $400,000 annual salary, along with a $50,000 annual expense account, a $100,000 nontaxable travel account and $19,000 for entertainment.

We know he doesn’t have the millions to spend on his and her vacations.
Whatever those (We the people or his financial backers) expect in return for the millions they spend, it cannot be good for the Republic.
So where are Hannity and O’Reilly on this subject”; not to mention the mainstream media.

“wondering if he’ll go nutty like Ron.”

This is Rand Paul's biggest obstacle. People thinking he's his dad. What can he say? “My dad is nuts.” “Yeah, my dad is a few fries short of a Happy Meal.”

The TRUTH is, Rand Paul is NOT his father, but I'll bet he loves his father. I'll bet he respects his father.

When asked last time if he would run for president, he said that if his dad didn't run he might consider it. If his dad ran he would support his dad, and that's what happened.

He can overcome this problem with most people by just being himself while getting greater exposure. When people get to know him better, it will become obvious that he is not his dad.

This same problem will be a blessing as he will inherit all the crazy Ron Paul supporters. He will get the Libertarian vote. He will get the Conservative vote. He will get the Liberal pot head vote. He'd decriminalize small amounts of pot to make room in prison for rapists and killers.

He is for a strong defense, but won't get us involved in every war that comes along. I don't know about you, but I am SICK of war. I am SICK of seeing our heroes without arms & legs. I am SICK of seeing our heroes under flag draped coffins, being used as a photo op by politicians like B.O. and HRC. I am sick of seeing our heroes being tried for war crimes. It's WAR! You can blow their brains all over the ground, but don't you DARE pee on their dead bodies. It's called stress relief. The dead guy didn't mind.

So, let's not give the left any help in trying to discredit
Rand Paul. Trust me, they don't need any help.

Paul/Palin? Paul/Carson? Paul/Cruz?
