Comcast pulls gun shop ads from cable network

Updated: Feb 18, 2013 4:23 PM CST By Kristen Abraham

(02/18/13) - A gun shop owner said firearm manufacturers, distributors and retailers are being targeted unfairly after Comcast announces it's dropping all gun shop ads from its nationwide cable network.

The cable company recently acquired NBC Universal and this is a long standing policy there.

When a local ad agency recently placed an order for Williams Gun Sight in Davison Township, it was denied. Owner Tom Wright said he'll take his business elsewhere.

"I thought it was ridiculous, we are a legitimate business, we have been here for 80 years," he said.

Business has never been better at Williams Gun Sight Company in Davison Township. It was earlier this year when Wright decided to re-run a 30 second spot on cable television, only to find out he couldn't. "There's no reason why we can't promote what we believe in and something that's guaranteed under the Second Amendment," he said.

Andrea Olson is a media buyer for Canadian American, the local ad agency who originally placed the order. Olson said the agency's owner was outraged. "He thinks this is a direct infringement on our constitutional rights and links it to gun control, and he's a member of the NRA and passionate about the issue," she said.

Canadian American also pulled other Comcast spots for clients who share Tom Wright's point of view. Meanwhile, he said this won't keep Williams from advertising in other media outlets.

The Comcast-Obama Alliance
Ed Lasky

The media is still showing the love for Obama. Not only does the fawning coverage continue but media executives are putting their money where their collective mouths are, by showering the Obama campaign with money. Comcast, the nation’s largest cable operator and the new owner of NBC (and MSNBC) is the company that tops out the list of executives giving money to the Obama Victory Fund. Abby Phillip writes in Politico:

President Obama raised eyebrows this weekend when he visited Comcast CEO Brian Roberts’ Martha’s Vineyard home on Sunday. Comcast, beyond being a telecommunications giant, is also the parent company of NBC and MSNBC.

I would put a bent up metal coat hanger on my TV and do the best I could to pull in reception if Concast were my only other choice. They’re all expensive, but Concast does its best to s#it on its customers on a daily basis.

Hey Concast—maybe I’ll save a few rounds for you anal pores when the blue shirts jackboot in to take my firearms.

I didn’t know much about Comcast when they bought NBC from GE, but I thought the left leaning bent of the Network might change, if for no other reason to improve their ratings. Boy, was I wrong. They have gotten worse rather than better. I guess ratings don’t matter.

First they confiscate your intellect with media.

Then they confiscate your means of self-defense.

Seems like a plan to me ...

Rename it Commiecast. I do when I write them a check. No other choice here at the moment than to keep them. I dropped their HBO from the package long ago btw.

You’re way ahead of me, but so far I’ve saved about $300 by cutting the cable.

A Washington Post story by Perry Bacon Jr. and Cecilia Kang reports $1.2 million was raised for President Barack Obama’s reelection campaign at the home of Comcast’s Executive Vice President David L. Cohen. MSNBC is a unit of Comcast’s NBC Universal.

FCC And Justice Department Bless Verizon Deal With Comcast

The Writers Guild West has issued a statement on today’s decisions by both the FCC and the Obama Administration’s Justice Department to bless that Verizon cable deal with Comcast. Consumer advocates say this pretty much ends prospects that cable and phone companies will vigorously compete in wired and wireless broadband:

It’s all about slowly removing guns from the culture, bit by bit, wherever they can.

Kill your TV. Cable is a luxury you are paying to enrich those who hate you if you are a conservative.

“You’re way ahead of me, but so far I’ve saved about $300 by cutting the cable.”

The even bigger disgrace with “cable TV” is the content! You can get over 500 channels of $hit and Reruns. It doesn’t matter who your carrier is, they all run the same trash. If you live on the West Coast and you stay up late you see the doubling, tripling, etc., of the infommerical channels which make up the bulk what you are buying anyway. As an example, last night ( like all nights) there were five channels for the Milana Bra, six for the Artie what’s his name show, equal number for Montel Williams and his TommyCopper pain relievers, a whole host of ten year old re-runs of Holmes on Holmes, and three channels with the same two women selling vibrators! That’s the real disgrace, the content! We dropped all the movie channels years ago for the same reason, you seldom get anything new and they charge a bundle for the bundles!

Maybe they will digitally replace them with walkie-talkies. I believe I’ll be giving Comcast the heave-ho. This is last straw kind of stuff as far as I’m concerned.

Me too...I either go with Comcast for the internet or back to Morse Code...They removed the anti-trust laws so companies like Comcast do not have to allow competition...
