Administration ramps up budget cut warnings, Republicans say drama 'won't solve the problem'

The Obama administration on Friday ramped up its campaign to paint an ominous portrait of what would happen if automatic spending cuts take effect March 1, with Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood warning that air traffic control towers would be shut down as part of a host of travel-disrupting FAA cuts.

After a week marked by intense partisan bickering, LaHood again put the pressure on Republicans to find a way out of the impasse -- even going so far as to compare President Obama to Abraham Lincoln.

"Go see the movie 'Lincoln'," LaHood said, in a message to congressional Republicans. He said Lincoln brought people together in "the way I believe President Obama is doing."

The mood in Washington, though, is hardly one of consensus. And Republicans -- who would surely dispute the comparison -- have blasted Obama for his leadership on the issue, effectively saying he's putting on a show to pin blame on the GOP.

"Trying to drive up Republicans' negative poll numbers by posing with first responders and the men and women of America's Armed Forces while making vague calls for higher taxes won't solve the problem," Michael Steel, spokesman for House Speaker John Boehner, said in an email.

As long as Odumbo continues to have 85% of the media in his backpocket...he’s going to continue to drive the GOP to the margins.

It worked in the last election and probably will work again. Low information voters are being bombarded with the message...that the GOP is causing the destruction of the country. Never mind that sequestration was the DNC’s idea.

Facts mean nothing to these people.

“BUDGET CUTS”? What BUDGET?

These are NOT budget cuts at all, they are less spending than originally planned. They still plan to spend too damn much of your money and mine but will just hold back a little and not spend quite as much as originally planned.

I’m thinking Obama stepped in it. He figured that the Republicans would have caved by now...but they haven’t, and they’re not even discussing caving as their “fall-back strategy”, like they usually do prior to caving.

Now, if the Republicans would get on TV with a simple bar graph showing government spending with the sequester and without the sequester (i.e., both bars being almost exactly the same height), they could show graphically just how the president is trying to inspire panic, for no reason.

Fear mongering.

And can we PLEASE quit the constant quivering, fearful, trembling at the so-called invincibility of the assclown in the Oval Office?

This time four years ago, Demon Rats had all three branches (including both houses of Congress) and we were on the verge of putting a trillion dollar porkulus on our kids' backs....today, we have control of the House, more Republican state houses and governors, the assclown's popularity numbers are NOWHERE NEAR where they were in 2009....

I am not saying we are in a great place, but we have faced worse political problems....and we cannot afford to lose heart for so long....

Look at history: winners NEVER came from people who threw up their hands and said "All is lost!" Washington lost most of his battles....but kept fighting. We have licked our wounds long enough.

Exactly. By the way, the ONLY branch of government that has passed a budget is the House.

The Democrat led Senate hasn’t passed one for more than three years, and the assclown has been consistently late turning in his proposal...and those proposals, when voted on, have not even received votes from DEMOCRATS in the Senate!

I think the GOP should back down an offer tax increases through the elimination of tax loopholes. Specifically, it should offer up all of the new loopholes that Obama and Reid inserted in the fiscal cliff tax changes just a month ago. Too bad Hollywood, you must pay your fair share.

How about de-funding Obamaphones and stop the handouts to Illegals, and you won't have ANY layoffs?

What an asshat.

Republicans need to get a message and stick with it. They are still all over the place and not having enough pressers. They need to pound th message home and force Obama to stay out there calling Republicans names. Then they need to make fun of Obama and stick with the “Demagogue” meme.

As far as Hollywood, Repuboicans need to put forth a bill stating that any film made outside of the United States will face a stiff tax.
