I’ve always wondered about something.
This tribe was traditionally known as the Micmac.
Presumably at some point it became politically correct to refer to them as the Mi’kmaq.
Why? In non-written languages there cannot be a “correct” spelling. They are pronounced (I assume) about the same.
So what is the point of the weird spelling?
