Last week, the judge who granted bail to Oscar Pistorius was in the international spotlight, presiding over dramatic hearings in a courtroom as the Olympic athlete sat in the dock charged with murdering his girlfriend. This week, the judge is in private mourning.

Desmond Nair, chief magistrate of the Pretoria Magistrate's Court, confirmed Tuesday that he is related to a woman suspected of killing her two children and committing suicide on the weekend.

The revelation was the latest twist in the saga of Pistorius and prominent figures linked to the case against the double-amputee athlete, who faces a charge of premeditated murder in the Feb. 14 shooting death of Reeva Steenkamp, a 29-year-old model who appeared in a television reality show.

What a circus! First, Pistorius with a downright unbelievable story. Can someone shoot somebody else, sight unseen, without checking first checking where his beloved is? Then the problems with the main investigator. Weird enough for you? It was followed by the announcement that Pistorius' brother is facing murder charges. Now, it is the judge! WHAT IS GOING ON?

but America is a gun toting and killing culture. I have always believed that other countries report their stats skewed for them. Look what a little tiny bit of worldly scruntiny digs up in just one week on just a couple of people.

South Africa is a terribly violent country. We don’t hear about it unless a sports star is involved.

I know people who moved here from South Africa and the stories they told me would curl your hair. It makes America look like the cradle of safety. It would not suprise me if Pistorius gets off on intruder argument.

I think the media would like the story to be about (male) domestic violence. Because the crime rate in South Africa is so high, it is plausible that Pistorius thought there was an invader (which is not to say he is telling the truth—I don’t know), but the media doesn’t want the story to be about the high crime rate in South Africa.

the MEdia would like this story to be about the tragic bad luck of yet another golden boy who overcame so much to become a sports champion

and actually yes, the MEdia does want to blame some imaginary violent black fella for this death, for spooking poor Oscar into strapping on his blades, grabbing his gun from his girlfriends side of the bed (where he says he thought she was sleeping), and shooting her 4 times from above and through a locked bathroom door where she was cowering, not peeing (clothed when shot, empty bladder)

From the details leaked so far, Pistorious’ version of events is implausible at best and forensics will hopefuly provide justice for Reeva
