The sequester is scheduled to take effect on Friday, and that means Florida stands to lose hundreds of millions of dollars in federal funding and 80,000 jobs.
One program that will likely get slammed is Head Start, which provides early education and health services to tens of thousands of Florida children.
About 2,700 of those kids will lose those benefits if the sequester kicks in.
Dr. Daniel Armstrong, director of the Mailman Center for Child Development at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, says the sequester could have devastating consequences for the children being booted off the rolls.
"We run the risk that a portion of those children are going to be the dropouts," said Armstrong. "Maybe the children that will have more of the mental health difficulties...

Here’s an idea. How ‘bout these Head Start baby mamas actually do what WE did — marry, get up in the morning and go to work, stay married, and pay for your OWN freaking preschool for your own kids — Oh, and don’t have so many that you can’t afford it?
I mean — that’s what WE did.
I am sorry if I may have offended you. It looks as though you have gotten a rare and wonderful situation. My experience with similar programs (as a teacher, both paid and volunteer) have been quite different, but I am very happy that you have been blessed in this way.

No offense taken. The thing is that our city’s independent school system uses Head Start as a Pre-K and feeder into its K-12 schools.

And then there are the newsies on WIOD who also do commercials and product endorsements....so much for news "ethics" (probably an oxymoron anyway).
I started to curtail listening to WIOD a few months ago, when they hired Rick Sanchez (yes, THAT Rick Sanchez) for the 3pm slot. If you have been in South Florida for a long time, you will know something of his “history” here. I can’t listen to him and I will no longer listen to their news broadcasts. Rush is enough WIOD for me,.
You are right about the news people. It would be interesting to do a study of how often the “newscasters” (particularly Michael Wolf) start their broadcast with:
“PRESIDENT OBAMA...”. (I can’t duplicate the syrupy enthusiasm here, but you know what I am talking about.)
Oh yeah, I catch the post-Rush show occasionally, too, when I am in my car.
Self-centered is the word...pretty bad.
I am referring to the “news casts” WIOD puts on in between Rush’s hours and at the half hour...it is like these sad little leftists just ACHING to put in a story that praises Obama...most of the time, it is very evident they are merely repeating the liberal line and none of them are very well-read when it comes to history or economics...or they wouldn’t repeat such nonsense.
Once in a while I am able to catch the morning guy, not sure of his name, but he used to be on the Dolphins. Kind of conservative, liberal on social issues...but he is about as close as you’ll get to a real conservative on that show locally.
Pretty weak state of affairs.
That station used to run Mark Levin. I don’t think they do anymore.
Sean Hannity they DO run, but I am not a big fan.
You’re thinking of Jimmy Cefalo in the morning. Their worst news guy is that guy Wolf. He never misses taking a shot at Rick Scott, although after Scott’;s flip on Medicaid I’m not a fan any more either. (But then I’m not an “unbiased” news reader).
Jimmy Cefalo. He’s a good guy (kind of a libertarian). I try to catch him on my way to work. He is very anti-big-governemt, Pro-gun...
