The sequester is scheduled to take effect on Friday, and that means Florida stands to lose hundreds of millions of dollars in federal funding and 80,000 jobs.
One program that will likely get slammed is Head Start, which provides early education and health services to tens of thousands of Florida children.
About 2,700 of those kids will lose those benefits if the sequester kicks in.
Dr. Daniel Armstrong, director of the Mailman Center for Child Development at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, says the sequester could have devastating consequences for the children being booted off the rolls.
"We run the risk that a portion of those children are going to be the dropouts," said Armstrong. "Maybe the children that will have more of the mental health difficulties...

I don't know how it is going to devastate anyone except Baby Mama who won't have a place to put her little darlings while she screws around all day. The kids certainly don't learn anything in these daycare holding cells.
It may actually devastate the so-called teachers who won't be able to find another cushy job that pays like that one where they can't be fired for incompetence. It has absolutely nothing to do with teaching children, period.

We are educators in this family. Head start is a program that allows non citizens to not learn English. They can send their children to these programs to learn our language so then don’t have to learn and teach them themselves. Head start is a parent not parenting most of the day.
For their older children there are all of the after school programs that last until 6PM. You can now drop your kid off at 7:30 AM have the school feed them breakfast, lunch, and keep then until 6 in the evening so you don’t have to pay for childcare. Someone has to pay for that child care and the professionals who babysit their children. Several of the parents who use the after school programs here don’t even work. There is nothing to stop them from picking up their kids after school and taking them home. They choose to not parent and leave the child at the school. If you think that after school programs include teaching and learning, think again. They play games, watch movies and play on the playground.
And we the citizen taxpayers pay out the but t for all of this.
I will shed no tears if parents have to actually parent their children again.
HEADSTART is Free Day Care for people who don’t work and therefore do not need day care. It doesn’t work in terms of the learning curve, otherwise we would now have, after several generations of this program, a plethora of Brilliant, educated, erudite Hordes who were raised on welfare, and now are embarking upon a holy quest to save the world.
Its all for the children..
Meanwhile the GOP fights tooth and nail to preserve tax breaks for millionaires.

OMG I just can not beleive people are falling for this idiocy.
Last night on the local news reported that 30,000 people at Vandenberg Air Force Base will be laid off at the end of the month if the “S” happens.
What does it matter they don’t even have 30K employees...
And it just got worse from there........
Googled sequestration and this came up. Already blaming the cancelation of an airshow on something that hasn’t happened yet.
Sequestration is the new Global Warming.
I’m not sure about other Head Start programs (they’re like franchises, I suppose), but the one run by my city has done a lot of good to my special-needs grandson. His parents are not on welfare. His gradparents are not on welfare. We all work. The kid qualified because even if he’s a brilliant kid, he can’t talk. Head Start is not just day care. They arranged for our kid to receive speech and occupational therapy in addition to their normal curriculum, and he’s doing great. He is now ready and has been accepted in a private school which he starts in the fall and will cost us a pretty penny. If it weren’t for Head Start it would have taken far longer for the kid to be ready for an actual school.
And no, we don’t pay for it. But the parents that can, buy materials that are needed and volunteer to help the teachers.
Again, this particular Head Start run by this particular city, IMHO, works.
