I’m always looking at motivation.

As am I -- it's natural. I just find that new members are criticized frequently and I think, often, unfairly. Now, just because they're new to FR doesn't mean they haven't been hashing out these problems in their own minds for a long time. I know that I was like that.

When I found this place, I let loose a torrent of pent-up frustrations. I generally assume the same of newbies now. Of course, if they're praising Obama, my suspicions are raised.

ya, the liberals say the same thing when its time to wean them off the government tit too. Last I checked Israel was not one of the fifty states included in the ‘United States’ yet they want to suck the American tax payer dry like everyone else. Get in line. It’s not about hate, it’s about trying to avoid the coming debt collapse.

I see you're brand new as of today and your first post is a defense of voting for Chuck Hagel - and a suggestion that the defense of our ally Israel is somehow sucking America dry.

Are you a Ron Paul supporter?

The question is, why were the likes of McCain so vehemently opposed to Hagel while Rand Paul simply shrugged? It is easy if you think about.

Hagel has been a bit of a military non-interventionist. Rand Paul, definitley on the libertarian side of conservatism, is a bit of a military non-interventionist as well(nowhere near as extreme an isolationist as his father but he is decidely a non-interventionist).

Paul doesn’t see Hagel as the threat that McCain and the “war is always the first option” crowd do.

The explanantion given by Paul may have been a bit lacking but his vote aligns with his worldview on the use of the military. I don’t necessarily agree with Paul on this vote but I certainly don’t find it as surprising as the rest of the posters do. Paul occupies that no-man’s land between conservatism and libertarianism. His actions, I think, can be partially explained when put into that context. I still like Rand Paul even though I detest his vote for SecDef.

I also suspect that if he were to run for president he’d not want this to come back and haunt him. The role of the Senate is both advice and consent.
