SANTA CRUZ -- Two Santa Cruz police officers and one suspect are dead after a shootout in Santa Cruz Tuesday afternoon, Santa Cruz County Sheriff Phil Wowak said.

Santa Cruz Police Chief Kevin Vogel said, "Our department is in mourning. This is a horrific day. We lost two exceptionally fine officers today."

Santa Cruz has never lost an officer in the line of duty.

"It's a horrible, horrible day for the Santa Cruz Police Department and the community of Santa Cruz," Vogel said.

"We need to figure out a way to bring out department together as we work through this," Vogel said.

Wowak said the Sheriff's Office will take over patrol operations for the Police Department for the time being.

"My heart goes out to those who were involved," Wowak said.

The wheel is coming off the cart in ultra liberal Santa Cruz. The anything goes culture has resulted in shootings, rapes and murders that have been occurring with alarming frequency. Of course the local liberal are shouting about the need for more gun control as a solution.

The current state of chaos created by the Obama regime is what’s causing everyone to go nuts lately IMO. Everything is so unstable, unbalanced, and chaotic under his rule. Can’t wait to see him leave soon enough.

This is just the beginning. When people have little too lose killing cops
isn’t that big a deal.

" The FBI joined the investigation just after 4 p.m. as well as law enforcement from the Sheriff's Office, Capitola, Watsonville and Scotts Valley police departments and the California Highway Patrol."

Bringing in the FBI is a near sure death move.

If only CA had.....

A ten day waiting period
Universal background checks
No gunshow loophole
Handgun and assault weapons registration
10 round magazine cap
Assault weapons ban

Better watch that. There’s plenty of people that they can paint that way that are conservative that will defend their house against cops doing unconstitutional raids and seizures of their weapons. When it comes to that you don’t think they’ll try to paint those people the same way?

Besides tell me when thecops have all adopted a shoot first, cover up later mentality in their “Officer Safety is Above All Else” way of doing things, they aren’t exactly giving two craps about you in the first place.

Actual comment on local bay area news this evening

“Obviously, parents with children are concerned about them seeing police officers with guns exposed.”

This guy had three guns registered to him including a .40 cal Sig. That is interesting considering he appears to have had a criminal record from Oregon. The guy was convicted of a sex crime and gun crime, but that doesn’t stop him from registering a guns in California. Maybe they should enforce the laws on the books before they write all new laws they won’t enforce.

Read the whole story at the link. The shooter was a hothead, and has been for years. Things were going downhill for him pretty fast.

I think this guy would have cracked, even if the country had 4% unemployment, no inflation, and a shrinking government footprint on the neck of business and the individual.

Those sure sound like felonies to me! WTH? The move to beef up CA DOJ’s firearms unit was already underway at the Crapitol. If this was one of the 40,000 backlogged weapons they said that shouldn’t be out there, the DOJ staffing bill will happen tomorrow.

Police chief is a little bit over the top in his mourning. There is a dignified way to note the solemnity of the day without making yourself sound like an emotional basketcase. The cops know the risk. Say a few words, shed a few tears, mark their passing in a good way, then go to work again. Don’t quit patrolling the streets and turn things over to the sheriff. Just my opinion.

That’s where I go to surf. Awesome waves that hit 20 feet even during November to January at average.

it’s not really the local surfing community who are liberal morons. It’s the other morons who come from UC Sta Cruz. Their stupidity knows no bounds.
