Texas Lawmaker Proposes Tax-Free Holiday for Gun Sales

A Texas lawmaker proposed a bill this week to make a tax-free holiday for gun and ammo sales.

State Rep. Jeff Leach introduced House Bill 1533, or The Texas Gun Ownership Reinforcement Act, which if turned into law would make guns, accessories, ammo, archery and hunting equipment tax exempt for all 24 hours of Texas Independence Day (March 2).

“Texas must take the lead in the fight against the federal government’s attempts to infringe on our Second Amendment Rights,” Leach said in a statement. “The Texas Gun Ownership Reinforcement Act encourages and incentivizes lawful gun ownership by allowing law abiding citizens, hunters and sportsmen the opportunity to save money on firearm and hunting equipment.”

He also said that adding the tax-free holiday would benefit taxpayers and small business owners (because they’re saving money) and spur economic growth (because people will be more inclined to spend money).

You got to love Texas,

The message the bill sends is ‘We are a gun state and aim to stay that way.’

Has the tax free gun sale been reinstated in SC? I thought it was banned a couple years ago for whatever reasons I don’t know.

That would be OK if there were guns or ammo to buy. Right now there aren’t.

Yeah, some commie judge shot down the law with typical left-wing muddle-think, but the legislature just gave him the finger and started including it in the Appropriations Bills each year.

Great idea, but actually there should never be ANY tax on a gun or ammo.

It is a God given Right enumerated in the Constitution, and like First Amendment rights are not taxed (religious gathering, newspaper purchase), neither should guns be.

I'm going to send this to our Governor, Rick Scott! What a great idea. FL should always be on the forward edge of such positive thinking, especially in the ongoing effort to lure gun related businesses here.

In fact I just went to the state website and sent a webmail to the Governor suggesting this and doing a small cut and paste from the posted article to show what I mean.

Good. Most legislatures can find ways around the courts if they just apply themselves.
