China held a large fraction of our debt several years ago when the US first floated the idea of quantitative easing. They said at the time that if the US monitized its debt they would consider it an act of war. No one paid attention and we went ahead and monitized our debt via quantitative easing.
This could very well be China’s ultimate revenge.
