but wouldn’t the crime also be a lot easier to control if we knew who the people are who are here? ID’s, fingerprints, photos, eye-scans, these could be part of the residence application process. As it stands now, it’s impossible to tell a dangerous criminal from a roofer.

OMG, once the right thought a national ID card was a product of the DEVIL or 1984, now we can’t wait for everyone to have one. Look how much we have changed and don’t even notice. Do I think some ID is needed for work - “you betcha” said a great voice of conservatives, but does anyone care about ID of workers? Not if you look at the proposals put forward by the congress we elect.
