Good God, turning the child over to an adoption agency was just too much of a strain?
This one of the bitter fruits of the amoral mindset of “choice.” Don’t want that commitment? Cast it aside and forget about it.. it’s all about YOU!
I agree as to your premise but I sense a deeper concern.
The young woman was overwhelmed with caring for a child, presumably alone. Her isolation had to be palpable, unmitigated by adult interest or paternal involvement. I can imagine the extremity of her isolation extending even to her child.
A fresh start meant for her the death of her life and that of her child. Her act was a kind of suicide, mitigated only by continuing to breath.
Her awareness of the desperation of her plight notwithstanding this is a lost soul trapped in hell.
Should she be adjudicated? Certainly.
Should we seek to bring the love of Christ to her? With absolute certainty.
This has been going on for millennia. Not much has changed in human nature, eh? This is sad, but I am thankful the baby is all right. Better off without that poor excuse for a mom.
