CT:First Gun Buyback Weekend Starts Saturday

New London's gun buyback program will begin on Saturday and run for two weekends.

Mayor Daryl Finizio announced the program, which will be overseen by the New London Police Department, in January. The program runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday as well as March 9 and 10, according to The Day. The program will take place at the Truman Street substation.

The program offers $75 for rifles or shotguns, $100 for handguns, and $150 for assault weapons. Finizio previously said residents taking part in the program will not be charged for minor offenses, such as owning a firearm without a permit, but that it is not a general amnesty program since investigators will be checking the serial numbers of weapons to see if they were involved in major crimes. Once the guns have been turned checked and catalogued, officers will take them to the Connecticut State Police for destruction.

These gun turn in events (buyback is a propaganda term, as the government never owned the guns in the first place) are political theater designed to delegitimize gun ownership and armed citizens. They primarily waste police resources, defraud ignorant gun owners of valuable property, and increase the demand for new guns by decreasing the supply of old guns.

If they really want to "get guns off the street" they would invite private purchasers to offer better prices for the better guns brought in, there by stretching their turn in dollars, providing a better price for valuable firearms, and placing valuable property in responsible hands. It is a win-win-win situation, with a variation recently done in Maine.

If they are unwilling to do this, then they are primarily interested in propaganda, and not "getting guns off the street".

I would like to know the response if any in the area offer to buy some of the better guns for more money than offered, especially the police response.

“The program offers $75 for rifles or shotguns, $100 for handguns, and $150 for assault weapons.”

Unreal... I’ve got a couple hundred bucks in my pocket right now. I’d gladly pay $150 for an assault weapon!

Libtards are SUCh cheap bachelor’s children. Cheater, too.

Offering $100 for a handgun is less that half what any handgun is worth, and easily less than 1/4 to 1/8 of the real value of a functional handgun.

As for an assault rifle for $150, as a collector, I’d take as many as offered for $250. At that price, I could enlarge and upgrade my collection.

Too bad CT is so far away.

What does it cost to use a 3D printer to make a gun? Make a gun on the printer and shoot it until it is about to fail and sell it to a gun buyback. Don’t clean it so they can smell the gunpowder.

Participating in a gun buy back because you believe that the criminals have too many guns, is like a guy getting castrated or a woman getting her tubes tied because they believe the neighbors have too many kids.

“ $150 for assault weapons”

That’s about what the target trigger in my “assault weapon” is worth.

Some people do exactly that.

Sell at gun shows - you’ll totally get more than those “buyback” offers if you have a gun in good condition. You will at least get an idea of free market value and go from there.

They always end up selling their souls mighty cheap, don’t they?

Sometimes one has to thik, for a moment, that the politcans could be on to something. The sheep really do not have the intelligence to run their own lives. They need the Government to rule over them.

They are doing one in Springfield, MA this one. They, too, will be paying more for an “assault” weapon. When asked what was considered an AW, the Police spokesperson said they would make that call on a case by case basis.

Even the cops are morons. The Commonwealth is pretty clear when it prohibits assault weapons and parts for me, the legal gun owner.

How much more can I detest this state and the idiots that constitute the police force.
