Democrat Gun Control Bills to be Heard on Monday (Colorado)
Mailing List E-mail ^ | 3/1/2013 | Colorado Senate Republican Leader Bill Cadman

Six far-reaching Democrat sponsored gun control bills are scheduled to be heard in the Senate Judiciary Committee and the State Affairs Committee on MONDAY, MARCH 4th.

If these bills pass, we will lose our rights, reduce our safety, and we will watch multiple companies close their doors, fire their employees and move out of Colorado.

Have your voice heard. Come to the Capitol Monday, March 4th to tell your Senator to put the rights of law-abiding citizens before out-of-state special interests.

It is imperative that Coloradans make their voices heard, now!

Committees will begin at 10:30 AM on the second floor in the Old Supreme Court Chambers and on the third floor, room 356, of the Capitol.

Summary of six gun control bills that have been introduced.

HB 1224: Bans magazines with a capacity of more than 15 bullets. Magazines owned prior to the ban can be kept but cannot be transferred or sold.

HB 1226: Prohibits concealed carry on public college campuses.

HB 1228: Charges fees for background checks.

HB 1229: Requires a background check to be conducted by a licensed firearms dealer before any sale or transfer of a firearm. “Transfer” includes lending a firearm to a friend or family member on a temporary basis.

SB 195: Requires concealed carry permit applicants to complete training in-person.

SB 196: Makes users, owners, sellers, distributors, and manufacturers of firearms liable for harm caused by any firearm that was under their control at one point in time, but is later misused by someone else.

I'll be taking a vacation day on Monday and driving up from Southern Colorado to be present and to make my objections known.

I hope to see several other Colorado, and even some Wyoming, Freepers there.

When are these goofballs going to realize that the more gun control measures proposed, the more resistance is built?

I'm not sure exactly where the tipping point is, but I think it is close.

"“Transfer” includes lending a firearm to a friend or family member on a temporary basis."

I can see this purposely being abused, such as letting someone shoot your gun at a range resulting in a criminal prosecution.

Does that mean I can’t bring along an extra shotgun to the goose blind for my visiting friend to use? Will the game warden now be calling in all the serial numbers to check us out? Sure does sound like infringing to me....

Sb 196 is this about ALL fire arms or just semi-automatic arms? Does anyone know the specifics?

The bill concerns liability for the discharge of an assault weapon.
It defines an assault weapon as any firearm except:
!
Handguns;
!
Shotguns; and
!
Bolt-action rifles.
The bill establishes strict liability against a person who discharges an assault weapon for damages caused by the discharge.

Link to the entire bill is here.

SB-196 - "The bill establishes liability for a seller, distributor, or manufacturer of an assault weapon for damages caused by the discharge of the assault weapon by a third party if the person sold or transferred the assault weapon in violation of any state or federal law."

Morse's SB 13-196 violates federal law, "The Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act of 2005," and federal court cases that ruled against gun grabbers who attempted to sue manufacturers and distributers in the 1970s though the 1990s.

All bad, but particularly bad: Makes users, owners, sellers, distributors, and manufacturers of firearms liable for harm caused by any firearm that was under their control at one point in time, but is later misused by someone else.

Gun manufacturers on the hook in perpetuity and if you sell a gun today, and 20 years from now and 18 owners later, someone commits a crime with it, they can come after you.

It was reported that Obama personally called Colorado legislators to vote yes on these bills.

The Democrats ought to be asked, if they are representing Obama or Coloradans.

>> Obama personally called Colorado legislators to vote yes on these bills.

It is also my understanding that NY Mayor Slimeberg has called them, saying “If you don’t get on board with this I’ll cough up megabucks to defeat you in the next election”.

I just heard this morning that Mr. Gabrielle Giffords (Mark Kelly) will be there today to speak in favor of the bills.

Yep. Mark Kelly, born in New Jersey, lives in Arizona will be speaking out in favor of anti gun laws in Colorado.
