Brazil is set to join the select group of countries that have nuclear-powered submarines, President Dilma Rousseff said Friday.

Rousseff stressed Brazil was committed to peace but also needed its defense deterrent, as she inaugurated a naval shipyard in Rio de Janeiro state where the country's first nuclear-powered sub is set to be built in partnership with France.

We haven’t talked about the USS Jim Robinson’s offensive capabilities...

I think that "the FRS Sarah Palin" would be a better name for this ship.

FRS = Free Republic Ship, of course

Nothing wrong with a 2 sub fleet. Just have to figure out how to pay for two.

Free Republic should have it’s own nuclear powered submarine.

Heck, there was a bill in the state legislature some time ago for the state of Kentucky to buy the USS Louisville to patrol the Ohio River ...

Thank God if somebody posts something on the Internet it must be true!

Reality: The EMP threat is vastly over-hyped. First it's far from clear that the Norks have any kind of weaponized warhead, despite the recent test, let alone a "super EMP" device. A Super EMP device remains purely theoretical having never been tested by any power, let alone North Korea. Moreover, the idea that an EMP burst would kill 200 million Americans is laughable. You COULD see short term blackouts, mostly as a result of failure of high tension power lines. No reason to believe that that would collapse society or lead to wide spread famine.
